I keep feeling Coronation Street is stuck in a rut at the moment. It can pull off great scenes like Violet collapsing which i thought was wonderfully done, but then the next minute we have Sean. Nothing against the character or actor, but I hate him. I just don't think Anthony is a great actor.
He's not the only one, there's far too much deadwood in the show at the moment.
...As for the plumber - isn't that "Alistair Campbell" from Bremner, Bird and Fortune - who I'm pretty sure was in the show not too long ago when they all went to Blackpool.
He was in the Brighton Episode playing the land lord of the pub Liz was working in
I cant imagine them paying some of the younger members of the cast the same or more than the likes of Bill and Barbara! I agree they should be paid based on how many episodes/scenes they have done.
I thought some of the furniture in Number 1 had been there the longest - im sure Ken mentioned the table and sideboard was Uncle Alberts and was seen in the first episode back in 1960?
Chesney has been there about 3 years now - that storyline with Cilla and Reet was in early 2004 and they arrived just before that.

Well Sam "Chesney" Aston was born in 1993, so he is a troublesome teen now!
I think Coro payscale ought to be a mixture of time served and episodes/year. I think there ought be a base rate for time-served, going up every other year maybe-- this will help encourage loyalty to the soap. Then the rest of the pay would be determined by how many episodes the actor does a year.
In most jobs your pay increases with time of service. In addition, if you do a job with unfixed hours... it's only fair that those who work more hours, get paid more I feel
I guess the fairest way then is the stars get a rate per episode based on how long they've served their, and then get paid by the episode.
Which is probably basically how it works - though I suspect rather than being paid by the episodes they are contracted to appear in so many episodes a year.

I dont agree it it in a rut at the moment - im really enjoying most of the storylines, sure it has a bad episode every now and again but thats ITV at fault for insisting on having 5 or 6 episodes a week. All things considered the cast and crew are doing a great job at the moment.
As for the pay system - I agree maybe a loyalty bonus after 5, 10, 15, 20 years like we have where I work.
Thought tonight was the first time really the Conners seemed to fit in to the show, rather than just being extras.
I agree. So far they've just been involved in other people's storylines like with Danny etc. So it was nice to see just them and them having their own storyline. I'm really warming to this family now, especially Carla.
Ive just had a look at the spoilers for the week after next, and Charlie doesnt actually die until the Monday as I originally said a few weeks ago. It also appears that Tracy will be arrested for his murder on the Wednesday.
