I know what would happen if ITV dropped say the 2nd episode of Corrie on Mondays

Cue Tuesday's Media Guardian...
"ITV dropped to it's lowest Monday night share in 2 years last night as ITV's new look Monday schedule kicked off. Programme X at 8.30pm received 4 million viewers. Coronation Street last week managed 9.3m. Programme X's performance also effected the inheritance into the 9pm drama as viewers stayed with BBC1 after EastEnders..."

It might be a success creatively but it wouldn't be for neither the ratings, the advertisers, the overall peak time share etc

Anyway I can't see any other channel who doesn't have such commercial pressures reducing the number of showings of it's higest rating programme, so ITV aren't going to do it.

ITV thing Corrie is superior to Emmerdale ...

But its true, it is.

I know Corrie is miles better than Emmerdale but surely ITV should respect their Emmerdale fans and the show itself and the cast & crew by keeping the show intact and finding somewhere else for Corrie?

You make a fair point but the over reliance on soap has to stop, they need to find a wider range of programming. Yes that'll mean bad figures for a while but it's a necessary evil.

Wherever ITV adds extra Corrie it gets around 10m... what's your point? That's like you saying if you add it, you can never remove it. If 10m will watch Corrie and XF, they just need to work on making other shows that can be that popular.

That made me laugh. Laughing

I didn't know she went to RADA. Find out something new everyday.

I was being satirical about RADA... I'm not sure if she attended, but I think she may have done. Most actors who talk proper went to RADA Wink

Well she did. Embarassed

But how do you know "programme X" wouldnt get the same viewing figures as Corrie would? Its up to ITV to make the right programmes that get good figures and its lazy of them to rely on soaps for a large part of their peaktime schedule.

Terribly poor argument Andrew. ITV was consistently the most watched channel for years. It managed to be when Coronation Street and Emmerdale were on less, and its programming was creative, innovative, fresh. ITV needs to go back there. They can create a show which can pull in the viewers if they try. The whole '9pm drama won't perform well' argument is also flawed. Especially in recent years, the figures show that viewers won't just watch whatever rubbish just because it's on after Coronation Street.

Can I just point out to all of those anti-ITV people, it is actually ITV that have made your beloved BBC drop to their lowest ratings ever these past few months.

Im not anti ITV - its my favourite and the channel I watch the most. Its just not as good as it used to be and I hate them using Corrie so much just because they cant come up with new ideas for programmes.

Just because a programme is of excellent quality and the most popular with the viewers they dont need to put it on as much as they do.

I'm not anti-ITV, it's just painful to watch a great channel degrade.

I've never understood why people stay with 1 channel, I watch what I want to regardless of which channel it's on. some evenings I watch something on all 4 channels (can't get channel 5 where I am)
