Not just that Jez but the
episode where Danny almost falls off a bridge but is saved by Jamie
sounds great too.

The schedules for ITV1 and the main person who has responsibility in trying to gain and keep viewers glued to the station is Simon Shaps

The ever reliable MediaGuardian seem to think his time is running out. He was brought in to do a job and yet ITV suffered one of their worst summers ever. It ain't looking good. They apparently want Channel 4 's Kevin Lygo, who as we all know has worked wonders for Channel 4. He might be the guy who could completely revamp ITV's schedule.

It's funny because everybody can see what ITV is doing wrong except ITV.

To be honest I feel sorry for Simon Shaps - during the summer he tried to fill the scheudles with programmes that had been commissioned before he got the job - get them out of the way and start afresh with ITV - hence the reason for axing so many programmes as well. We are now just getting the fuition of what Simons Shaps team have been commissioning - apart from last Monday, which in my opinion was a complete shambles of a schedule, the new shows, the one-off have so far been quite decent but only time will tell whether he and his team do manager to turn around ITV and stop relying on Corrie and Dale

Well last Monday we only had 3 Corrie because of the F1 on Sunday.

in the old days before ITVplc they never actually moved the episode and just carried on with the normal schedule i.e. if the Sunday episode couldn't be shown then it wasn't shown and not moved to Monday or any other day just to keep the same number of episodes for the week.

But the F1 schedule is known about a year in advance. I'm sure it be better all round if it was a case of "F1 on Sunday - we'll have one episode less this week then".

It's a way of cutting down the episodes (only slightly) without appearing to do so!

RADA daaaarling

That made me laugh. Laughing

I didn't know she went to RADA. Find out something new everyday.

I was being satirical about RADA... I'm not sure if she attended, but I think she may have done. Most actors who talk proper went to RADA Wink

My favourite Blanche line ever has to have been: "I prefer funerals to weddings. At least with funerals, you don't have to hope for a happy ending" Laughing Oh course there is her catchphrase: "In my day, that sort of thing wouldn't have happened". Nobody ever answers her back either-- even Blanche or Noris.

What's happened to Boris? Last time we actually saw him, he broke his arm putting up Christmas decorations at the butchers last year IIRC

Maybe a bit of near-drowning of 'Damien' Platt will scare him into not behaving like a brat!!

I would like to see less of Corrie also as much as I love it. The main reason is that it dosent feel "special" anymore now it is on everyday (inc repeats) and was better when it was Sunday, Monday, Wedesday (somes displaced due to Champions League and Fridays with one episode per day then the big omnibus on Sunday.

One other thing that annoys me is that when Corrie is displaced, it always takes the place of Emmerdale. Now, I'm not an Emmerdale fan but I don't think its fair that ITV thing Corrie is superior to Emmerdale ...

Tracy finds out on Monday?!

Are you joking me? How? I didn't expect her to find out until December.

That's what I'd do if I was ITV scheduler. I'd have an efficient system and inform Granada well in advance of one less episode for week commencing x, for example.

TBH, ITV need to just be brave and bold and do, in essence, what Channel 4 did with Brookside. I'm not saying axe Corrie (that would be a travesty!) but halve the soap output on ITV. Go back to 3 for Emmerdale and Corrie, and 1 for The Bill.

Then really reinvigorate the schedule. Aim for a broad range of programming spanning diverse genres. Experiment. Dabble with short 4 part series (at 8pm as well as 9pm) - if successful, recommission for an 8 part series, if successful, recommision for a 14 part series... etc etc Give shows a chance, not be scared to commission factual or intelligent documentaries because it's thought that's not what ITV viewers want. Viewers don't all fall into the same category - some watch soaps, some don't. Some watch documentaries, some don't. Some watch films, some don't. Some watch all of those, some watch none.

They have to appeal to more than one cross section of society.

Wow, what a rambling. Embarassed
