It was confirmed at the press screening in London by Steve Frost himself. It's definitely happening.
Can't say he doesn't deserve it. Emmerdale's got Cluedo and Corrie's got "Who shot Charlie" this should be good, any ideas when this storyline would start?
It's already started. There will be many suspects, and Charlie is already making enemies.
Indeed. Think how many people hate him- half the street! Tracy, Maria, David, Bev, Violet, Deirdre, Liz will all hate him by the time it happens if they dont already! Liam doesnt like him very much, and maybe even Jayboy will turn against him.
Personally I think it will be Bev but Tracy will get the blame and either go on the run or to prison for a murder she didnt commit. Amy could then stay with either Steve or the Barlows. And it would be a fitting end for Tracy as she would be punished for all the bad things she has done even if she didnt kill him. She could always return to the show in 10 years time a reformed character and played by a 5th different actress if Kate Ford didnt want to return. It would make a change from her going upstairs to play her tapes.

Or maybe he's shot. Or maybe he's stabbed. Or maybe he's poisoned.
What's your point?
I was only saying, trying to think what they could do, sorry for having some theories on what they could do. What do you think will happen to him?

Two interesting articles I found linked on DS about ITV's exploitation of CStreet (and soaps in general).
Article 1
Liddiment says one of the answers to ITV’s problems is “innovation and ambition” across the schedule. Many people, including me, also worry about ITV’s exploitation of Coronation Street. The decision to screen five episodes a week wasn’t made for the benefit of the writers, cast and crew. It was a commercial move aimed at making more money for ITV.
Some previously loyal Corrie fans have had enough and voted with their remote controls. The Street is still the best soap on TV – and evolving beautifully under producer Steve Frost – but five times a week is one episode too many.
“Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Bill are the cornerstones of the schedule. They carry a heavy burden. Despite - or perhaps because of - their pivotal place, all have proved vulnerable to growing multi-channel competition with audience declines greater than the channel average,” Liddiment points out.
“Perhaps it's time to consider whether they might be more resilient if they were on less often, at a stroke making room for the innovation ITV so desperately needs.”
Article 2
ITV risk killing the golden goose in their exploitation of Coronation Street. Five episodes is one too many, never mind six.
Last night’s three visits to Weatherfield had strong storylines, including David’s discovery (above right) of Maria’s affair with Charlie, and left TV bosses smiling.
The first two episodes between 7pm and 8pm attracted an average of 10.2m viewers with 9.7m for the 8.30pm conclusion.
That’s good news for ITV. Even so, I can’t help feeling they’re playing with fire by scheduling so many episodes and stretching a number of storylines to fit.
The jar of instant gravy granules was marked: “For that traditional taste.”
Keep on at the current pace and the long term danger is that some Corrie viewers with busy lives and other distractions will simply lose that taste.

I must say I completely agree. I hope the new ITV boss makes some radical changes and axes at least one of Corrie's episodes - preferably 2 though. Emmerdale needs a good 2 if not 3 of its run a week axed, IMO.
In other news, does anyone know when

Unfortunately , the new chair of ITV - whoever it will be either before or after the supoosedly takeover (see DS again!!) wil NOT have a say in the day to day schedules of the TV stations. The chair is effectively the figurehead that looks after the business side of the group - appeasing shareholders and trying to sell the group (with streamlining measures, cost cutting and generally trying to make a profit year on year) to possible new sharesholder (i.e. pension investment funds etc...).
The schedules for ITV1 and the main person who has responsibility in trying to gain and keep viewers glued to the station is Simon Shaps and if this is a sign of things to come then I will be using my remote control - albeit possible new drama in the near future. (Too much of the recent past is being obliterated - what happens if the new programmes are absolute rubbish - more reliance on the Street et al???)

I was pretty annoyed that the whole of Monday evening was taken up with Corrie - effectively 7pm - 9pm. Although the storylines were strong, there was simply too much for one night, I didn't enjoy it, it felt like a chore. If they ever do this again, I will record it and watch the whole lot in 40 minutes - and so will others. If people are not watching the adverts, who will be funding ITV in a few years time? Shooting themselves in the foot they are.
John Savident was right when he said that people become more casual viewers of the programme when it's on so often, it's becoming very easy to miss episodes and catch up - I used to make sure I saw every one, now I'm not so bothered. Familiarity breeds contempt!

Interesting articles. I agree totally with what has been said. Corrie is on top form and 2006 has been an excellent year and its all thanks to Steve Frost.
Ive already voted with my remote and stopped watching 1 soap on ITV, and although I wouldnt stop watching the Street even if there was 10 episodes never mind 5, id still prefer less episodes to keep the show strong.
Cant be long now, it was filmed about a month ago. Cant wait for this, looks like being a good episode.
Im really going to miss Debra and Bradley when they leave Corrie.
