Wouldnt have done them any harm to have "missed" an episode due to the F1 last night rather than reschedule it to tonight, especially as we got an extra one last Friday. Is it just me or is the equalivent of 3 in one night too many?

That would have been better. However it looks like being a good 3 episodes tonight.
It also looks like the 2 we had on Friday were indeed specially written as a double episode (as it ended with a cliffhanger and returned to the same scene) rather than ITV just adding an extra episode for the sake of it.

I would have thought a more logical move would be to just schedule the missed episode on Friday at 8.30pm rather than this 90 minutes business.

You can always tell can't you
I remember the good old days when it was 4 a week, and they did the doubles for Richard murdering Maxine, Richard's confession Richard's death and Karen and Steve's wedding.
Back then they meant something. People knew to tune in for them, because they were rare. Now they mean nothing. It's a shame.

IIRC, the Monday night doubles started about 4 years ago. The first one I remember was October 21st 2002 when Ade left Sarah for dead when he crashed Ken's car. The doubles were then only seen occasionaly - the next one I think being Richard torching Audrey's Kitchen that November. Then of course we had Maxine's murder and Richard's confession in January and February 2003 respectively, and the doubles became a permenant fixture around early 2003. I assume the viewers liked them.

Yes, the doubles were introduced around the time the Richard Hillman storyline was stepping up a gear, but like you said, it wasn't every week. I remember the double episode when Richard nearly confessed to a packed church after Maxine's murder, and of course, the most famous double episode was Richard's confession. A double episode that was there for a purpose. I can still remember it now - we were all crowded round the television - that was the longest half hour ever.
I'd love for Corrie to do another storyline like that. Just fantastic stuff.
Anyway, they proved to be very popular so ITV decided to make them a permanent feature. I don't think they really started to affect the show until late last year. Even now I think they do very well with the amount of episodes - but ideally I'd like to see two axed. The show really needs to go back to three times a week - for the sake of quality.

The Monday doubles were only ever supposed to be for 4 weeks in September 2002 to boost ITV's autumn schedules. ITV insisted that Corrie werent adding a 5th weekly episode yet they carried on with the Monday doubles. I think they took a break during the summer of 2003 when we went back to 4 episodes a week. But as far as I remember there was a double episode every week from September 2002 to about May 2003. Then in September 2003 they came back and havent moved since.
I agree, it doesnt usually affect the quality of the show, apart from Summer 2005 when even I said the show was dire for 6-7 weeks, but yes id still welcome 3 or at the very most 4 episodes a week.
