Nice second episode. I liked the shots at the end with the river in the background.

The singing was quite good, but it would have been better just Rita on her own, I think, instead of the likes of Les guffawing over the top! Overall some good episodes tonight.

Cilla's face cracked me up, with her chav like chewing looking like she doesnt have a care in the world Laughing .

Lol yes and Les went to kiss her and she wasn't having none of it

The kiss did go on too long, half an hour in fact, they were still kissing after Tonight!

Is it just me or does Blanche just steal the scene everytime she appears?

I love Blanche - she always says what everyone else wouldn't dare too! She is such a believable character - people like her do exist and she is played so excellently by Maggie Jones Laughing

Also we got a terrible match with the interior and exterior of Danny's apartment. Looking up the the balcony we saw a dingy bedsit brightly lit with a paper lantern.
Hardly the sheek muted interior with candles Frankie was sitting in.

I didn't think that one looked too bad, as you couldn't see the extent of the apartment. I presume it was filmed at Salford Quays (which stands in for Weatherfield Quays) and there are some VERY NICE apartments there Very Happy

I was totally shocked at the lack of people that attended this funeral. There was barely 20 people there!

Where were all his work colleagues from previous butchers, also his members from the square dealers and what happened to Diggory?

Did my tv go funny or did his coffin whizz off at the end which only Audrey laughed at? If so are we to read into that that only Audrey really understood him and thats why she was laughing/crying at the same time?

I've noticed there has been less reference to his days as a butcher than anything else. What is going to happen to the shop?

Ashley will take over the shop I would imagine.

Is Boris still meant to be working there ? He's going to need another pair of hands.

Yes Ashley occasionally mentions Boris, but we only see him like once a year, if that"

I filled this out for DS and thought I'd do it here to. If I was Corrie's producer, my plans would be:

* Reduce cast. Axe all deadwood, those who add nothing, those who cannot act.

* Revamp the opening and closing credits. Music would stay the same but be rerecorded to be more dramatic. Opening credits would be darker and include the cobbles and the street sign. Writer, director and producer credited over the first scene of the episode rather than in the opening sequence. Closing credits would be a shot of dark cobbles with lamplight reflecting on them, with all the usual ITV guidelines. Just not the blue crap.

* Sort out the set - spend money on it and make it more realistic. If necessary have storylines explaining why the set is being updated - i.e. burn part of the Street down and have a few weeks of poverty while the Street is rebuilt to realistic proportions.

* Make a formal request to ITV to remove at least one episode a week, to improve episode quality and reduce cast strain. Repeatedly make this request until ITV bows down to pressure.

* Start scripting the show in "series" - even though it runs all year round. "Series finales" would air every few months with a big episode that the past episodes have been building up to. With a death, dramatic conclusion, funeral, wedding - a momentous event. This would go out in an hour-long episode on a Wednesday and then the next two episodes (Friday and Sunday) would be missed to act as a sort of "cliffhanger break". Episodes would resume on the following Monday.

* Improved lighting and episode direction. Alter the lighting of episodes to make them seem more... I don't know, professional. At the moment it's very bland, maybe increase the contrast just a little. Use better scene transitions, for instance showing the busy pub bustle before focussing on some characters in the pub. Moreover, the ending of episodes should be logical - i.e. all plot threads coming to some sort of resolution/conclusion/advance in their last scene. Use of nice techniques like seeing the lights turn off in a house from outside, shots that pan up and out into the air from a scene... ETC.

* Use of incidental music occasionally. I don't mean cheesy soundtracks but real songs, for instance on a sad episode one character might sit in his flat alone and put on the radio, which would play over the closing scenes of the episode.

What does everyone think of that?

Okay, lets make Coronation Street into an American Soap Opera! You cannot change a format which has been popular for 45 years!!! Although I do agree with the opening titles...they are slightly drab.

I agree with you until point 5, especially reducing the amount of episodes - the 2nd Monday episode should be scrapped IMO.

I agree with some of rocksol's points. The opening/closing credits need abit of a revamp, possibly they will do this when they have to move the set from its current location.

Mmmm incidental music.....this sometimes works on Emmerdale, but shouldn't be overused. Hollyoaks annoys me doing that! Confused

Good episode tonight. I loved it when Alonso punctured Schumacher's back left tyre as he drove past him.
