A very interesting interview indeed, I also liked the fact that John pointed out that he wasn't criticising Coronation Street itself, but the rushed manner in which it is produced. I agree it should be kept to 3 eps a week, rather than 5 or even 8 on "special occasions".

Mr Savident comes from Guernsey, I say the Channel Islands. All people I know from the CI speak like that Laughing

It's quite interesting to note how many actors are well spoken in real life (RADA daaaarling). Sue "Audreh Roberts" Nicholls is well spoken, as is David Lonsdale, who lays Daaairvid Stockwell in Heartbeat !

Audrey's accent does slip now and again, especially in emotional scenes. I've noticed she's become much posher on occasions over the past couple of weeks.

Barbara Knox's accent is a strange one though. In rare interviews these days, she has a very posh voice, which I'm sure is put on. Having heard her interviewed in the 80s, she spoke just like Rita.

Barbara's accent is very posh in real life. I think its put on as well! On the 1989 video special which was made in the early 1990s she was talking posh on that. Thelma Barlow who played Mavis talked very differently too. Sally Whittaker, Wiliam Roache, Betty Driver and others introuducing those videos all sounded the same as their characters.

Barbara hardly ever gives proper interviews these days - apart from the soap awards in 2004 and 2006 when she won awards, the last proper interview was on This Morning in 1999.

Effective, self clanging of the Rovers Bell, Freds last orders.
A few key characters missing, eg betty. Frankie & Jamie, What were they thinking?

Strange that we're supposed to believe that although Fred was one of Weatherfield's most prominent traders and member of the "Square dealers" or whatever, none of these other businessmen/women turned up at the funeral - unless you include Rita, Norris and Audrey,,,,,, Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Who needs friends huh?

that's a good observation, there were loads of people at the wedding.

Liked the link between the clanging pub bell and the church bell tolling. Althought I doubt they would have left the pub empty with the lights on and the door unlocked.

Betty is an unusual absence but Frankie and jamie were there Confused

That kiss was grossly long.

But never mind, the funeral was good I found. No singing yet?
