They should keep the set as a tourist attraction rather than knocking it down - think of all the money they could make having tours there!
It used to be part of the Studios Tour but when a certain Charles Allen got in control of Granada Television
I went on the tour twice, the last time being 10 years ago in October 1996. It was half term and I went with my sister. Wish they would re-open it, now the only only way we get to see the set is through the windows of the museum of science and industry.

I get the feeling it's just the tabloids putting 2 and 2 together and getting 6. We've heard before that Granada may move, but only to the building next door! The BBC moving to Salford Quays may also be in doubt if they don't get a high enough licence fee increase!
Plus 'moving the set brick by brick', how exactly would they do that, unless they filmed Coronation Street without any exterior scenes for months. If anything they would build a totally new set and knock down the old one
