(sorry but webaviation wont let me copy the photos )
I like the previous poster's idea of a complete rebuild from scratch with life size building they can film in like brookside. that way not only will the rover have a change of wallpaper it will also have the sun coming in through it's supposedly south facing windows
I get the feeling it's just the tabloids putting 2 and 2 together and getting 6. We've heard before that Granada may move, but only to the building next door! The BBC moving to Salford Quays may also be in doubt if they don't get a high enough licence fee increase!
Plus 'moving the set brick by brick', how exactly would they do that, unless they filmed Coronation Street without any exterior scenes for months. If anything they would build a totally new set and knock down the old one
Well technically Weatherfield is supposed to be part of Salford, so I guess it's a bit more closer to Salford rather than Manchester. Anyway as I've said before anyone who has walked around the Quay Street area pretty recently cannot help but notice all the the new buildings surrounding Granada popping up out of nowhere, the land has real value to it. As well as ITV's excuse that the Granada Studios are over half a century old...
I actually work, when in UK, on the 8th floor of the new RBS campus building in NEW Gartside Street - opposite to Granada TV and have a great view of the Street etc... City of Salford, to be honest, is literally metres away from the set. - The old Albion Maket site, which at present is being used by the builders of all these new buildings is in Manchester whilst on the other side of the river is Salford - that's how close the studio already is to City of Salford.

They should keep the set as a tourist attraction rather than knocking it down - think of all the money they could make having tours there!
interesting episode tonight, we got to see one of those rare things in coronation street
a bedroom
Top left hand corner, next to the road bridge and next to the river (wharehouse style buildings) - also directly next to that is the Victoria and Albert hotel which used to be owned by Granada - in the days when they had the studios tour!!!!
Its got the "tion" across it from the word webbaviatiion - on the photograph
Having spent over 3 months working from Granada Studios in Manchester I can see the attraction of moving its location and also keeping it where it is.. but the expansion of buildings popping up around the studios will only hinder any outdoor filming scenes.... look at the new Beecham Tower that's popped up:

It used to be part of the Studios Tour but when a certain Charles Allen got in control of Granada Television (he became chairman after the supberb Gerry Robinson who went on to become chairman on Compass when it separated from Granada plc) - which included the Studios Tour, Camelot Theme Park, Amercian Adventure Theme Park and the V&A Hotel - he closed the Tour sold the other bits for short term PROFIT and to so-call refocus the group on th media business.
How much money has the company lost with the closure (although admittedly I feel that the set couldn't be part of the tour, if it was still open nowadays, due to the amount of filming for 5 episodes a week)???? Short sightedness by CA.
I feel that ITVplc would have been far different if Gerry Robinson had still been in charge of Granada/ITV. He knew what people wanted and he knew business and he was not frightened of telling the shareholders where to get off - he did many a time when he was chairman of Granada.
If Granada do move to "MediaCity" at the Quays, Salford, then I agree that they should build a new set but keeping the other - how???? it will be bought by a developer who wuill want to knock it down and build more apartments/offices and such - it is within the Spinningfield redevelopment area so any chance of keeping the set or even opening up a so-called attraction is very very slim. I must admit it would make great economic sense for ITV Manchester to move with the BBC to "MediaCity" as they already share many departments/studios (Mastermind and A Question of Sport plus a few other BBC programmes are filmed at Granada) so why not stay together in a purpose built complex.

Beatham Tower
- the tallest residential building in the UK with Manchester newest 5 star hotel (Hilton) being on the first 20 floor. There is also a skybar which has a fantastic view over the city and surround towns and cities.
Plus it does hinder the filming of Coronation Street due to high pitch whistles on the sound recording, when it is slightly windy - down to the "sail" thingymajigs on top of Beatham Tower.

I knew it was called something like that - we just used to call it 'The Nail'

Must admit it does look as though it would fall down easily - very lobsided!!!!! is that the reason they have the "sail" thingys at the top of the building?????
