Corrie pick up five awards

Suranne Jones won a big prize for Coronation Street when she was named best
actress for her role as feisty Karen McDonald.
And the Street won best storyline for Tracy Barlow's attempts to sell her
baby to the Croppers and her bombshell announcement at Steve and Karen's
wedding.
Kate Ford, who plays Tracy won the award for soap bitch of the year.
The other award the Wetherfield-cased soap picked up was Best on-screen
partnership went to odd couple Hayley and Roy Cropper, played by Julie
Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson.

Coronation Street had been tipped to win the best soap prize thanks to a year
of storming story lines, including the saga of Tracy's baby and Peter
Barlow's bigamous wedding.
But viewers voted instead for the BBC soap.

Barbara Knox, who plays Rita Sullivan, picked up the Lifetime Achievement
Award.

I'm glad Kate Ford and Surrane Jones won, they've pratically made Corrie this past year. But again it's another load of Biased BBC Crap, or just shows how stupid the British public are.

Though what's a BSA compared to a BAFTA! Very Happy

I heard yesterday that the new actress playing Sophie Webster makes her debut this week.

Any info on who she is and whether she bears any resemblance to Emma Woodward, the previous actress?

Also, does anyone think that Betty has been given some great one-liners recently as part of the Fred/Thai bride story? Makes a change from saying "Yes love?" every few episodes.

Shame that it seems the Fred/Thai bride storyline looks like another disaster area for poor Fred, who I've now grown to like after finding him incredibly irritating.

I guess it's more or less protocol for Coronation Street to change child actors for characters who have been born on the Street... can anyone think of the last young character who was born in Corrie, has been a long term character and been played by the same one actor?

Or any soap, come to think of it.

There's some interesting news over there about Corrie.

Don't know if its all correct though but there's certainly a lot of promising rumours of a website and huge "explosive" climax and stuff... Shocked

Yes, a new web site is planned. They claim Eastenders won more awards because they have a better website, so ITV plans to launch a brand new Coronation Street one...

...and about flipping time! They were daft enough to close it in the first place. Fools.

I know!

Barbara Knox was robbed! Thanks a bunch, Granada for the token nomination like last year with Helen and Sue when you keep putting the same younger names forward just like EE does so the older characters don't stand a chance. Where was the variety in the storylines nominations? Like with Richard last year, they rely on one or two dragged out ones that become tedious with this many eps and ignore others which are better and far shorter. Lifetime Achievement? What an insult! Especially when you look at who got it in the past for not being in a soap anywhere near as long. Pointless award saying 'You're past it and will never gt anything else again expcept these'. Pah t the fixed Soap Awards!
