Ive been impressed with Julia Haworth's acting during the whole Claire post natal depression storyline - the whole thing has been done really well.

I won't fault the performance, but I think this storyline is pretty poor to be honest.

I just can't help comparing it to Mandy in Hollyoaks and they did it so much better. With Mandy we knew the characters history and not only understood the reasons of her post natal depression.

With the storyline in Corrie the only explanation is that Claire's behaviour is caused by post natal depression - and really don't get to understand the reasons behind it!

I know every case is different - but as a soap plot while in Hollyoaks the storyline came from the character, in Corrie it just seems to have been a case of let's give someone Post Natal Depression.

Also, just got to say how crap are ITV with helplines. They've shown it just once I think!

I think the storyline is good because we dont know much about Claire's past - apart from her father dying and that she doesnt get on with her mum very well. With Mandy in Hollyoaks they had too many bad things happen to one character.

I don't know what some members on here are talking about - it is a good storyline; Claire was originally a mild-mannered character, and seeing her "transform", if you like, has had an impact. As Jez states above, there's no need for a mass of background info.

On another note, I received the Daran Little "Around the Coronation Street Houses" yesterday - it's quite good. There's a real insight into the street itself, and information on the characters pre-1960 (as you may know, the street was "built in 1902"). Also included are archived photographs, with pictures of the 1960s actors before joining the show included - i.e. a picture of Doris Speed in 1930 has the caption "Annie Walker in 1930", etc. Rare shots of Pat Phoenix, Violet Carson and other are included. It was written back in 1997, so some details are not entirely correct. Does anyone else have this book?

Ive got this book somewhere, it was ok from what I remember but I didnt enjoy it as much as most of the other Corrie books. Ones I really enjoyed were "Life and Times at the Rovers Return" and "Women of Coronation Street". Speaking of Pat Phoenix, its the 20th Anniversary of her death today. Sad

Talking about books - anyone read Lynne Perrie's ( who played Ivy Tilsley for 23 years) autobiography? Lynne sadly died earlier this year and a friend recommended the book to me, although it was published in 1995 ive only just got it, its an excellent read - some good stuff in it about some of the cast being horrors - no wonder Granada tried to ban it! Smile

Knowledge is Power by Ken 'Reg' Moreley (sp?) was published around 1995 too, and gives some great about his time in Coro. He mentions Lynne Perry in that too, and what a character she was! Worth a read.

The thing about Lynne Perrie was that she was very different from Ivy Tilsley. I found all the "controversial" things she did in the mid-1990s slightly.. wrong!

Yes she certainly was a lot different to her character Ivy - I was surprised she wrote so openly about her many affairs with toyboys in her book! She didnt help herself really over her departure from Corrie. Ivy was a fantastic character but went downhill after she married Don, who IMO was an awful character. She also slags off the actor who played him in her book, but says Pat Phoenix was her fave. Both her and Pat were great friends with Peter Dudley who played her first husband Bert.

Id like to read Betty Driver's autobiography, but I wish Barbara Mullaney Knox would write one!

Good first episode tonight, I liked the continuity of the factory alarm going off throughout loads of scenes at the start

Adam is looking even more foolish now as he found out that Danny would have paid him more than 80k

Annoying that there's no Ken though. Bill's been in it 45 years and he chooses this week to go on holiday!

Very enjoyable episodes tonight. Its great to have Danny back. Loved him telling Liam "You've got thirty seconds to say your goodbyes". And Sally trying to suck up to Danny while the other girls told him she was all over Liam. Well Liam certainly didnt make a very good impression on Danny then. Cant see things improving when Danny finds out he is screwing his ex wife, although according to Liam he isnt yet - what is Frankie waiting for! Smile

The papers said yesterday that Bradley Walsh films his final scenes next month which means he will probabaly leave sometime in November, while Debra Stephenson does'nt film her final scenes until November as her on screen exit is at Christmas. So im guessing Danny and Frankie wont leave together?

Elsewhere the Claire storyline continued to be good tonight.

Onto the rovers sale, can Steve legally buy the pub if he's been inside for fraudulent business activities?

Didn't he and Vicki do some dodgy deals when he was running his tee-shirt business in the factory back in 1993?
