For around the first 6 months Coronation Street was shown at 7.00pm on Monday's and Friday's. The first episode went out live on the 9th December 1960 and the second episode was recorded as live straight after and transmitted the following Monday. This carried on with the Friday episode going out live and the Monday episode being recorded as live.

Then around Mid 1961 it was changed to Monday's and Wednesday 's at 7.30pm and remained as such until the third weekly episode was introduced in October 1989.

I just wondered about Fridays because at the time Granada was only a weekday Broadcaster whilst ABC took over broadcasting in the North West at the weekends sometime on Friday evening. Also Granada was not in any other region, unlike ABC and ATV

Did ABC definately take over on a Friday evening like LWT did with Thames, or was it a Saturday? Maybe they took over after 8pm or something?

This has caused a bit of discussion in my family (both my grans, my two uncles and my mum and dad), with regards to TV in the past, but all seem to agree that they remember seeing ABC on Friday evenings, as well as all day Saturday and Sunday. Also, they all seem to agee the the best era for ITV was between the early 1980's to about 1998 and since then it is rare to watch any of quality on ITV - just soaps and soapy dramas - BBC 1 and 2 is much more preferred nowadays for intellectual television.

I can't watch him since the actor who plays him was in Jane Hall, playing a nasty Bus Driver!

For those people who like to do Liz McDonald impressions, she was at her best tonight "Give the keys to Steve"

Forgive me for the vagueness - I haven't got the article in front of me - but reading an interview tonight in the paper about the bloke who plays the other of Michelle's brothers (not on screen yet) - Sean Gallagher.

Well, he was originally cast as Shameless's Frank Gallagher and actually began filming the role.

However, it was deemed unworkable when Anne Marie Duff was given the role of Fiona. The characters age was increased from 18 to 21, with Anne Marie herself still being considerably older. At 38, Sean Gallagher was then deemed too young to be Frank, the role was recast and the rest is history!

So when he turns up next week just think Frank Gallagher!

I find it funny that whenever anybody is thrown out of their house and their things are chucked out of a window there isn't any traffic coming down the street. Do they get the council to close the road?

Not just me then who likes to do Liz impressions.

She used to say "Reeeiiiiiggghhttt" when Steve and Andy were up to somet naughty in the old days. I managed to get that off to a tee.

Plus of course there's the classic "Jum, Jum, I love yer Jum".... and the Lily Savage inspired exercise video routine: "Flat on yer back, and ohhpen yer legs. Ohhpen em wider." Smile

Of course there's "dawn't staaart Jim/Steve/Andeh/Traceh etc". Or "dawn't worry Deirdreh, we'll get yuh out o'prison"

Beverley Callard comes from Leeds, but seems to have an East Yorkshire accent! All the people I know from E.Yorks say "uuur nuuur" all the time Confused Is that just me, or do people from the East Riding always say that Laughing
