Now Baldwin's ready to quit
CORRIE veteran Johnny Briggs has threatened to quit the day after
it was revealed Bruno Langley is leaving the Street.
Johnny, 68 who has played factory boss Mike Baldwin for 28 years
says he is ready to go when his £200,000-a-year contract ends in
September.
He is tired of Corrie's busy filming schedule and wants to spend more
time at his homes in Florida and Cyprus.
Speaking exclusively to TV Biz, Johnny said: "I'm thinking of leaving
or at least cutting down my hours when my contract comes up for
renewal.
"When I started we were filming two episodes a week and now we're
doing five which puts a lot more pressure on the cast. I'm keen to
spend more time abroad but also I'd like to try other acting work
like movies."
Johnny's departure would be a blow to soap fans. They are already
shocked that hunky Bruno, 21, who plays Todd Grimshaw, is going.
Womanising Mike has been a big favourite since he arrived in
Weatherfield His affair with Deirdre Barlow in 1983 was one of the
Street's biggest storylines.
A Corrie insider said last night: "It would be a massive blow if
Johnny leaves but new characters have been signed up to step into
his shoes."
