There were loads of restructuring/merging/demerging of Granada companies back then. Remember they used to own the Motorway Service Stations which are now known as Moto

Yes I remember some hotels were owned by Granada as well.

With regard to the episode where the factory was demolished, yes that was on the 1980's DVD's, its the same episode where Reet is told the date of Alan's trial although annoyingly they didnt put that episode on the DVD's (an excellent episode IMO), but they did put the March 1989 episode where Alan tries to kill her and the Dec 1989 one with the tram, on the DVD's. That particular storyline was when I first became a huge fan of the programme, although I had watched a couple of years before then but was too young to really appreciate it and seem to remember stuff more clearly from about early 1989 onwards e.g, Brian's death and Alan trying to kill Rita. .

Yes id like to see the Classic eps return, Granada Plus had reached 1994 by the time they were closed down, however id prefer to see earlier episodes (late 70s or anything from the 80s)

Did they own the Granada TV Rentals shops too?

Indeed they did. In the early 80s, we used to have a rented TV from them which had the classic 'arrowed G' logo in red on the front of it.

I don't know if Granada took them over, but before it was a Granada, our local store was a 'Rediffusion' rental shop, complete with the Adastral logo on the sign.

Thats such a shame Granada studio tours closed, I sometimes go to Preston to visit family which is close to Mancs, I've always wondered what it would be like, now it's closed. Sad

EDIT: 4000 post on this thread

The Granada shop by me became "Box Clever" and then closed down a few years ago.

somebody mentioned camelot closing down at the same time as granda studio tours but it's still open. There are plans to close it down within the next ten years though. Apparently there are people still turning up at the millenneum dome thinking its still open.

Anybody know why the world of coronation street closed in blackpool.

If you read my post a bit more carefully I did actually say that they sold Camelot. I did NOT mention that they closed it.

All Granada attraction were either closed or sold off in the same time period due to the restructuring for the onslaught of becoming THE only ITV company - shame they had a numbskull such as CHarles Allen at the helm - he knows nothing about television and most importantly he knows nothing about business.

Granada Rentals merged with another rental company , IIRC - Radio Rentals, and the renamed the company as Box Clever. Granada then sold the business and the new company decided to close the business when supermarkets, such as Wallmart-ASDA, started to sell electric equipment very cheaply.

Last nights episode was excellent - liked the way everyone was getting involved in the storyline with Keith and Craig, from Sally to The Platts to Charlie/Tracy.

I guess that is the end for Keith but Craig will be back I think.
