Also I swear I've seen the actor who plays Maria's new boyfriend before..

I read in What's On TV that he used to be in Familt Affairs ? Perhaps one of of the eight viewers of said soap could tell us.

According to Wikipedia there has been 6,323 up until Friday. Just wondering was there anything special for the 6,000 episode if anyone can remember?

Also does William Roache who plays Ken have any idea of when he plans to retire, if ever.

I dont think he should be killed off, but he should leave on the 7,000 episode. There would a be a special week leading up the 7,000 episode. Heres a basic outline..

Ep 6995
Charlie starts to worry when the stalker sends photos of Tracey in the post with blood on them. The stalker breaks into Charlies house and leaves a package.

Ep 6996
Ken and Diedre visit Tracey to babysit Amy for one last time, an explosion rocks the street. A dramatic rescue takes place to save Diedre, Ken, Tracey and Amy.

Ep 6997
Ken is ok, but Diedre is in hospital with a broken leg, she tells him that he is still go to Australia, and she will join him at a later date. Tracey and Amy are fine, just suffering from broken bones and scratches.

Ep 6998
Some of the past residents of Coronation Street return and surprise Ken, for his leaving doo in a couple of days. Charlie says that he is going to leave as he is sure the stalker is only after him.

EP 6999
Diedre makes it out of hospital and arrives at Kens leaving party in the street, as everyone mingles around, Charlie is preparing to do a runner, as he goes up stairs the stalker is sitting in a chair, with a gun.

Ep 7000
With the party in full flow, Ken takes a slow walk down Coronation Street, and has flashbacks of the past years. Before he heads into the taxi, he walks over to underworld and has flashbacks of him and Mike - he than smiles and says "Goodbye Michael", he then heads into the taxi and away he goes. As soon as the taxi heads around the corner, a single shot rings out - is Charlie dead?

Ok maybe im getting a bit carried away Smile

Ken will probably go quietly like Alf did - in the chair during a party.

What's concerning me more and more though is poor old Liz Dawn (Vera). We haven't seen her for quite a while now. I'm aware that Liz has lung disease - anyone any news on her condition? Confused

Yes episode 6000 was the episode where Ken and Deirdre got married and Ray died, shown in April 2005.

Episode 1000 was shown in August 1970 so it took them almost 10 years to get through 1000 episodes, episode 2000 was in June 1980 and just after Vi Carson left, she was expected back for this special episode but sadly wasnt well enough so never returned. Id like to see the current characters like Ken, Reet and Jack/Vera have proper exit storylines when they go, not like Vi Carson and Doris Speed who were forced to quit suddenly due to ill health.

Bill Roache has said he will carry on playing Ken forever - well as long as he is able to carry on working. Look at Betty Driver, 86 and still going strong - wouldnt be surprised if she lives to be 100.

That's something I'd like to happen as well, I do hope that Jack and Vera, Ken and Rita (and Betty, Emily, etc) have "proper exit storylines". What happened with Violet Carson is that she had already left in many episodes to be a housekeeper for an old friend, so her last episode (in which she said she was moving, but may return) was not considered her "final episode". But, as you said, ill health forced her to stay off, and she passed away in 1983. I sure hope that this doesn't happen to any of the older cast members in the show today.

I recall reading here that Jack and Vera would have some kind of special 50th wedding anniversary episode next year and/or a documentary with actors and actresses portraying the couple in their early years. Does anyone know if this will still happen?

Same happened with Margot Bryant (Minnie) - she left rather suddenly. I know Minnie was said to be on holiday and then 6 months later Ena was told that that she wouldnt be coming back. Margot lived for over 10 years after she left the show in 1976 but sadly Vi died less than 4 years after she left.

Wonder which of the current cast will have plaques outside Granada when they die - currently Vi Carson, Doris Speed, Bryan Mosely and Pat Phoenix do. Bill Roache will definately and maybe Eileen Derbyshire and id like Betty Driver to have one too.

That would be interesting for Jack and Vera, I hope they do go ahead and do that.
