Why wasn't Corrie an hour long tonight? Noone would miss tonight with Trevor McDonald? With a none Dull match on itv1 you could lose ratings

Because they would then 'lose ratings' at 8.30

And why should ITV have to move Corrie out of its usual slot just because the usual programme isnt on at 8pm on BBC1 Rolling Eyes

Anyway tonights episodes - is Diggory about to have a storyline at last?

I think Diggory might be about to have his exit storyline. He was looking very mournful last night, and his shop doesn't seem to be doing well. I hope writers don't make him kill himself or anything.. Sad I suppose he'll just move shop elsewhere or something.

They could have developed his character more I feel.

I thought it strange how Diggory seemed to vanish after he made that embarrassing speech at a party - then he popped up at the Duckworth's front door several months later - I thought he'd just been quietly dropped.

When they launch a new character they sometimes make the mistake of making them too cartoon like. The whole Diggory character was OTT - too much like Fred as well. Also, how many traditional old fashioned cake shops pop up from nowhere like that anyway? It would've been more realistic if a branch of Greggs had opened with Diggory as manager and someone like Janice serving in there too - there may have been a bit more comedy potential with those two.

Having said that, the most amazing French bread and cake shop/cafe has opened near me - if you live in Brum get down to Poplar Road in Kings Heath! Mmmmm Very Happy

Where does Liz work at the moment?

Great scripts again tonight. I loved Haley's Simon Groom/Blue Peter story, Sean's crack about Alanis Morisette, and Steve's squirming with Lloyd.

Tim Healey is doing well as Brian; it's be good to see a character like him in it more often.

Well we all know Coronation Street isn't exactly realistic when it comes to commercial businesses, How many factories like Underworld still exsist?!

I liked that strange scene with Rita running down the road after Liz quite amusing for some reason, also that bit where she was sharing a silent drink with Devrinder later.

Also, I liked the scouse reference, calling the Police the Bizzies, It was like watching Brookside!

Plus Leanne did more hiding behind tea trays tonight!

Also don't you think that Violet is nang? (whatever that means!) Laughing

Damn - I forgot to mention Leanne and the tea tray on my post -I'd intended to! That really was an inspired way to hide the bump!

Violet has become more of a nag IMO - she keeps sticking her nose in to other people's affairs.

Last time I was in Ireland, everything was the same. The scheduling of the episodes, including the Monday double, and the end credits. Obviously it would have the ITV Productions end-cap as they make the show.

Not so "obviously", the show is made by Granada Television but branded as ITV Productions in the UK (and ROI it appears). But when Granada programmes appear on other channels (e.g. Countdown on C4), the Granada G logo is used instead, and I understand Granada's ITV programmes also use the G logo when shown abroad. I wonder what the Aussies are seeing at the end of Corrie?

Is it me or have there been a lot of references to other TV programmes recently? (Wasn't there another one tonight, besides Blue Peter?) I wondered if someone had a bet that he couldn't get the title of a BBC show into every episode of Corrie? Smile

why does corrie have the same end background as other itv programmes like the bill when emerdale has it's own titles over views of yorkshire

The ITV producer guidelines (which are probably available at itv.com somewhere) say that all shows must use one of a limited choice of closing credit styles. Producers who wish to deviate from these styles or who wish to use moving pictures must get special permission to do so. Emmerdale's bosses obviously secured permission. Corrie's people perhaps thought that since it was ITV's flagship show it should lead by example and use the awful blue stripy background.

I have to say I dislike the blue stripy background to Corrie, because it looks so different from the programme itself - as if it has been added by someone else with no sense of style! The only backgrounds that work (IMHO) are moving pictures (such as those used for Emmerdale) or a solid black background (which looks cool when they do the credit squeeze - but probably not so cool on STV). Corrie should use a nice shot of the cobbles or something like that, IMHO.

Most YTV produced programmes do the same don't they. I'm thinking of Heatbeat and The Royal. Looks much better than the blue stripes.

I think she will leave this time. I personally feel as though the character of Tracy has been used to its fullest potential. I think keeping her on would be a mistake. She should get one final explosive storyline - the downfall of Tracy!

I think Tracys leaving due to the plans to cut cast wages(Below),It seems to me she wants more money and shes trying the good old press routine again but i don't think its gonna work this time.

Coronation Street stars are furious at plans to cut their wages.

Show bosses are reportedly set to cut back on their wage bills, with Granada suffering from falling advertising income.

It seems that each cast member would lose 26,000 from their current salaries from next year.

One source told The News of the World: "There's a lot of discontent. They're on high wages but they work very, very hard to bring out five episodes a week."

The higher earners in the cast reportedly bring in around 260,000, with younger stars on around 90,000.

This is the second time this year that actors' salaries have been disputed.

I was just suggesting it would be better ratings wise for Corrie if you look at the ratings for yesterday you will see what i mean.
Coronation Street 7:30---- 7.8m (45%)
Coronation Street 8:30---- 6.4m (29%)
