The storyline did start last year (around February - when Johnny first decided to call it quits) when Mike called Penny by another name (Alma, if I remeber correctly) on a couple of occasions. And then it really started to show just after his brothers death. It has been a slow build up, but this very fast downfall it nigh impossible - don't get me wrong it could happen, but in general it doesn't and does take years to develop to the stage where Mike is now.
This after reading up abouty it, because my Gran has Alzheimers and it si soul destroying, not just for the person but also for the families - which is not quite being fully portrayed in the story.
Actually I think you'll find Bill Roach is seven years older than Ken. Bill was born in 1932 and Ken celebrated his sixtieth birthday in 1999
sorry, my mistake, got the birth years the wrong way round, means we won't have a 'ken's 100th birthday' episode then, don't think they've ever had a character reach 100 but correct me if I'm wrong.
with regard to the train station, i may be wrong but it looked like westhoughton
(between wigan and bolton, about 11 miles north west of manchester)
i was a but confused in last nights episode where mike threw mark out of his own house and after the break mark was back inside looking for mike who'd gone out

I don't think we actually saw Mike throw Mark out last night. I think he just pushed him into another room.
Incidentally, is it just me, or is Mark looking a bit more easy on the eye than when he's been in the show previously? I can't put my finger on exactly why - maybe a new haircut, or maybe he's been working out or somet.

Ken's Uncle Albert Tatlock was the oldest I think at 88. Betty isnt far behind though as she is 86 this year.

Nah Mark does nothing for me. Adam is looking good though, I think its his hair lol.
[Incidentally, is it just me, or is Mark looking a bit more easy on the eye than when he's been in the show previously? I can't put my finger on exactly why - maybe a new haircut, or maybe he's been working out or somet.
The actor concerned is also in 'The Royal'.
Could that have something to do with it ? (Filming schedules maybe, make up wanted an easy haircut to alter ?)
Slightly off topic, do you remember a few years back when Shadrach from Emmerdale was also in Corrie at more or less the same time, playing a clean shaven radio DJ, & he was his usual mucky self in Emmerdale.
Any idea how long between production & transmission of the major soaps?
In response to amosc's point: I also have a relative with Alzheimer's. It's been well researched in terms of symptoms, but the reality is that the care is much messier - patients don't tend to die off neatly after a few months solving the issue, but frequently live for years after their diagnosis. Now that would be realism...

Corrie is between 4-5 weeks I think as stuff is filmed out of sequence. I heard Emmerdale is more like 6 weeks.

But as has been said, Mike won't die of Alzheimers, he will die of pneumonia after roaming the streets in his dressing gown in winter in the pouring rain for several hours.
Oh and ITV are airing trailers featuring Mikes final scenes with Ken with the tag line "DEVASTATION STREET". I thought it had something to do with Dev for a moment
I don't really get the point of showing trailers of Mikes death scene, we know he dies, we don't need any other spoilers before the episode airs.
But as previously stated by myself and as other relatives of alzheimers victims know . People die from subsequent ilnesses of Alzheimers, such as pneumonia - i.e. they no longer have the strength to battle the illness.
Alzheimers does not kill - so there is no need in trying to stress to us that point.
Leanne discovers another will that MIke made in Spain which leaves everything to Adam. This will is more recent than the one he made leaving everything to Danny. Leanne confides in Janice (who returns to the show) who advises her to give Danny a photocopy of the will and not let on about the original. Leanne's sees this as her insurance as if Danny ever decides to split up with her she can blackmail about the more recent will.
Adam and Danny row at the funeral and Adam decides to contest the will.
Charlie tells Jason about Tracey's "abortion" who in turn tells Sarah. Soon the news spreads and Blanche finds out. Tracy is forced to admit the truth to the Barlows but will Charlie find out?
Jane Danson's pregnancy will not be written into the storylines so no baby for Leanne and Danny.

Mark had never done anything for me in the past, which is why I was slightly surprised. I like Adam too, but I think he could do with getting rid of that Frankenstein haircut.
