Though we saw some newer characters tonight, like the gay character in the club, who was rather funny.

Do you mean Sean, played by Antony Cotton (who also played Alexander in Queer as Folk - also, of course, based around Canal Street - anyone else think he is perhaps getting a little typecast?)?

Think there was a lot of stereotyping going on.

But, in fairness, Neil, you know as well as I what Canal St can be like.

One of the last times I was down there, this vile creation in a red vest walked past, gave me the eye, upon seeing my look of revulsion screeched "ooh, picky one 'ere" at the top of his voice. I think they've done a decent job of representing a fair cross section of homos, from Mr Fierce to Mr Flounce (not you, Ison).

cant say im a huge fan of Karl but he wasn’t quite so annoying tonight, im glad he isn’t going to chase Todd anymore and will let him come to his own decision.

Why?

I think that's possibly the worst thing that Karl could've done. Spends ages luring Todd into his arms, then as soon as he's got him says "sorry, mister, you've got to do the running now".

I'd have more liking for Karl's character were he more attractive.

Because Todd has a girlfriend, so it is wrong of Karl to be chasing him. The ball is in Todd’s court now and its up to him to decide if he wants to be Karl or Sarah.

Karl isnt very attractive IMO and I get the impression he loves himself a bit, maybe they should have cast a better looking bloke for the role.

It'll be interesting to see how they'll develop a gay couple in Corrie. I wonder which one (in my mother's words) will be the man and which one will be the lady.

It will certainly be interesting to see how certain residents will react e.g. Jason, Eileen, Gail, Les, Emily. Nick will probabaly say "I told you so"

I think Karl is so manipulative that he will wear the trousers in that relationship

Sorry, surely it's a bit late for that?

The fact that he's been chasing him for months now suddenly becomes irrelvant when the feelings become mutual?

Bizarre line of thought you have going there, Jez.

Yes but its up to Todd what he does, Karl should let him to come to his own decision. Todd is the one in love with 2 people, so its up to him which one he chooses and Karl should leave him to make that decision.

Ive been in a simular position myself, and I think someone shouldnt steal someone else's boyfriend in any way, shape or form - it all leads to heartache.

But he's already practically made that decision for him. Hardly taken the softly-softly approach to things, has he.

Either way, Jez, it is not real, and I am going to stop talking about it now to save face.

I can certainly see the point Jez is making - that Karl is being portrayed as quite predatory and out to get Todd into bed no matter what the consequences, nor who gets hurt.

I can't, however, imagine Granada have taken lightly their decisions around the portrayal of Corrie's first OPENLY gay character. This is not a post-watershed drama but a show which is considered by many to be family viewing and to have certain responsiblities in the way characters are portrayed, or sterotyped. I think we have to keep watching and see how Karl's character is developed. Is he just after a bit of fun and sees Todd as an easy target, or is he seeing Todd as a confused young man and wants to help him find himself? I wouldn't be surpsrised if the storyline develops either way.

I fail to see how Karl has "made the decision for him", it's not like he can force Todd to fall in love with him. As far as I can see, Karl has done nothing wrong in this situation - he's single, Todd is the one in a relationship.

All he's done is lay his feelings out clearly and left it up to Todd to decide who he wants, not forgetting it was Todd who made the first move on Monday night. Let's face it, one of them had to be the confident and decisive one, otherwise they would have both floundered around denying their feelings and the storyline would have gone nowhere fast.

I think "fall in love" is a bit strong... they've only even kissed once.

As far as I can tell, and I haven't followed the story line to a great extent, Karl has been fairly preditory in his actions - very much chasing Todd. As soon as Todd has shown a flicker of interest, Karl becomes quite unreasonable with his "not going to run after you" and arrogant "it was going to happen anyway" approach.

If someone told me that "oh, accept it, we were always going to go out with each other, it's just tough", I'd tell them to shove it up their backside. Not exactly the best foundation for a stable relationship.

Either way, I'm still not sure why I'm posting in this thread. It's not real.

Erm, why do you need a day off school if there's a romp scene?
