I hope not. She's irritating and pointless IMO.

That Freda was back this week, you know the deaf women who's a relative of Emily. Do you think she might become a regular character who decides to stay with Emily in her hour of need?

I disagree. One of the most entertaining characters who has come into the show recently. The way she gets Norris irritated is wonderful to watch. I hope she stays. Great character, whose disability isn't an issue. Well done Corrie!

Clifford is annoying but unfortunately there are many people like that, especially in Kent.

yes clifford is annoying and pointless, i'm not saying that rail enthusiasts are, just clifford
somebody asked if the actress who plays freda is deaf, yes she is. there was a piece in the paper about her being the first deaf actress in a soap when she first appeared.
Good on corrie for using real disabled people, it's about time tv companies did rather than having non disabled actors portraying the role like sue johnson did some year back (she played a paraplegic in some cop show)
of course in some situations it wouldn't work like in emerdale when chris tate was disabled in the air crash and peter amory played a paraplegic for the next ten years, they could hardly get another actor in, but i think if they are going to introduce a disabled character they should get disabled actors to play them.
back to corrie i don't see what all the fuss was about having the websters out on saddleworth moor, i can understand where the scriptwriters were coming from having sally end up feeling so lost and desolate and actually being lost in a desolate place like the moors.
I know saddleworth moor has a negative past but it is nearest to manchester and it would have been rather costly to say drive over 40 miles up to cumbria and film it in the lake district

Well, Stephanie Beecham (The Rag Trade, Tenko, The Colbys etc etc) is almost profoundly deaf, and reads lips so as not to miss her cues.
But you'd barely know it from listening to her fabulous voice.

Can someone remind me what relation Freda is to Emily. I must have been away when she first appeared, and so I've been a bit mystified as to who she is.
Also, and someone can probably put me right on this, but it seemed odd that she was using sign language whilst speaking to non-deaf people who presumably don't understand it. Do deaf people really do that?

Not all, but many do. Force of habit, more than anything.

Freda is her neice by marriage (Ernest's neice).
