Corrie is useless with helplines. Surely the Mike Baldwin storyline warrants some sort of helpline being advertised at the end of the programme rather than viewers being given the chance to win a cruise! They don't even say where the cruise is too - up the Manchester Ship Canal?

Helplines don't bring in thousands of extra revenue, text competitions at a pound a shot do.

Why don't you enter the comp?

I might, why don't you phone the helpline ?

I might, to see if they can put me through to a heavyman to come and sort arrogant TV forumers out.

Im sick of ITV asking people to phone in on almost every show - on the regional news bulletins they keep asking us to phone or text with our comments or to enter a competition. Yet another way to rip us off.

Did you know on Xmas day CORONATION STREET only got 8.83 Shocked,If that was EE the press would be going wild!

No they wouldn't. You are forgetting that EastEnders were as low as 6 million when the press 'went wild'

Do you know that Coronation Street was the highest rating show in 2005. It beat EastEnders ha ha lol Laughing Shocked Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes etc etc

And Corrie was at the top of the ratings for most weeks in 2005. Im confident the same thing will happen in 2006 with Steve Frost as producer.

Streetcars? No need to get the handbags out just stating what i saw Rolling Eyes Corrie may get 2-3 more this year but it'll never do it everysingle week for a whole year

Agreed! What with Quizmania - I think that's enough now. Wouldn't surprise me if the ITV National News start running competitions (or has that been done on the 12.30?). Rolling Eyes

EXCLUSIVE: SUICIDE RITA
EXCLUSIVE She starts to crack-up after Corrie shop attack nightmare
By Brian Roberts

CORONATION Street veteran Rita Sullivan spirals towards suicide after she is attacked in the shop.

Her ordeal leaves her mentally scarred and she turns to drink.

Rita - played by Barbara Knox - is so scared she spends a small fortune on security at the Kabin and her home. But she becomes paranoid and friends are worried.

An insider said: "She turns to drink as a way of trying to forget her horrific experience.

"Her old friends rally round but Rita becomes more reclusive and begins to show suicidal tendencies.

"She tells friends that she can't cope any more living with 'the eerie loneliness of old age'. This will be dramatic television."

The storyline will unfold in the next few weeks and run parallel to the plight of Mike Baldwin (Johnny Briggs) whose life falls apart from Alzheimer's disease.

New producer Steve Frost is thrilled with the scenes. And Barbara is pleased at being at the centre of such a dramatic plot. But despite Rita's threats, Barbara is definitely staying in the show.

The insider said: "There is no intention of her leaving despite the state Rita gets herself into."

Viewers will see Rita attacked after she helps shelter Fred's Thai ex-girlfriend Stacey Hilton (Casey- Lee Jolleys) from her new lover.

Psycho Stuart (David Peart) attacks Rita and locks her in the Kabin when she won't tell him where Stacey is.

There's a dramatic scene where Fred (John Savident) is beaten trying to save her.

Stacey turns up and Stuart grabs her. But mechanic and ex-boxer Nathan (Ray Fearon) saves the day.

The insider said: "After her attack, she will become aware of just how vulnerable she is. She'll realise life can never be the same again and loses the will to carry on."

About time they gave Barbara something to do as well - lets hope this isnt another false alarm like the stalker that Reet was supposed to have which lasted all of 1 episode.

I think sometimes stories are released based on half truth in order to cover up the real storyline like clare's bus crash which was reported as her driving a tram off the viaduct to nowhere and crshing into the rovers.

I remember in the late 80's a big story that the whole street was going to be demolished and rebuilt, as it was only the factory and community centre got redeveloped but the report stated the unlikly senario of the residents celebrating their last drink in the rover whilst the demolition squad were knocking down the corner shop

I wonder if some of these more sensational stories are plants to catch moles in the organisation.

does anybody else remember the suposed story line in 2003 of john lindsey coming out of prision after serving his five year sentence and harrassing deirdre, I heared about that on this morning from the actor who played john lindsay and then it never happened Confused:

Yes, thats why we need to take these reports in the papers with a huge pinch of salt. I was reading through this thread the other day and was amazed at how many storylines were reported that were untrue. Remember they said that Violet would have HIV. Thats just one example.
