According to Digital Spy, the actress playing Suuurphie Webster is leaving the soap and will be replaced with another actress.

What a silly bint she is - just as she's coming up to the age where she could have some really good storylines, she pulls out.

Of course, they should be using this as an excuse to kill the whole Webster clan off.

They should write out the entire Webster family except Sally

CORONATION Street stars were celebrating today after winning their second major award in a week.

The Rovers Return regulars beat EastEnders when they were voted Best Soap at the Royal Television Society Awards for the second year running.

Seven days earlier, the Granada favourite had retained its Best TV Soap title at the Television and Radio Industries Club awards.

Corrie is still good but I wish they would get rid of the double bill on a Monday night, apart from when they have a huge storyline there is no need of it and it drags out the entire thing. The only storyline im recent months tat needed a double ep was Karen and Steve’s wedding.

From Media Guardian:

Coronation Street took the ratings honours Monday, attracting
13.5 million viewers and a 60% audience share on its first outing of
the evening, between 7.30pm and 8pm.

EastEnders was watched by 12.6 million viewers and attracted a 52%
audience share from 8pm.

Then the second Monday edition of Coronation Street attracted 11.8
million viewers and a 47% audience share between 8.30pm and 9pm.

Yet more evidence that we dont need this double bill nonsence on Monday's, losing 1.7 million viewers is quite bad.

I liked the way Claire stood up for herself with Penny in the final scene tonight - Claire is a great character eh!

If you looked on Digital Spy earlier it was reported that the actor who played the drowing child which was rescued by Gary Mallett in Blackpool in 2000 has comitted suicide. I really liked that storyline at the time, still have an episode on video somewhere.

But I liked tonight's episode, very good, an improvement from Monday's episode.

Can anyone tell me what happened in Tuesday's episode from Plus? As I missed it was NTL went black for some reason. Evil or Very Mad

Quite the opposite actually. If ITV can recoup the 10million odd people who leave at 8 for EastEnders, then it's a good night.

In todays episode on Granada Plus Angie went to have a look at the flat above the cafe with Neil which led to speculation that she was moving in with him, Vicky lied to the headteacher at the boarding school in order to get time out to spend the night with Steve. Also Gail and Audrey had a argument, and Vera was worn out after looking after baby Tommy and social services came to visit.

There is no episode on Plus tommorow due to a 1 hr Emmerdale.

I still think the quality of the show suffers on a Monday due to the hour, unless it has a really big storyline like the wedding or the bigamy storyline etc, ITV use shows like Corrie and Emmerdale because the are guaranteed high ratings but nearly 2 million people who watched the 7.30pm show didnt bother watching at 8.30pm

I agree Jez. I actually find it annoying that it takes up the whole night now - I suppose I could video the second episode and watch it some other time - but the quality is definately suffering as a result, with stretched out storylines and the obvious crow-barring of cliff hangers into the 7.30 episode to conclude at 8.30, it is getting as desperate as Neighbours for episode cliff hangers. Even the recent fire was a huge let down, what should have been a major Corrie disaster just felt like another plot device to provide a cliff hanger. Is this now a permanent arrangement for Mondays?

Where's the evidence to say the quality is suffering?

I gave the example of the fire for a start, and there's been a host of drawn out minor plots which could have been cleared up in one scene, but sometimes it feels like scenes are a rehash of a previous one - the story didn't move along. Crossroads was guilty of it in the 80s. In my opinion, having watched Corrie for as long as I can remember from sometime in the mid-1970s, I consider that 5 episodes a week is stretching things too far, and as a result, quality overall is going down. There are still some great moments, but just a bit too much padding at times.
