RITA'S CORRIE HORROR
Star relives terrifying burglary

CORRIE star Barbara Knox is to relive a harrowing real-life drama for the soap.

Her character Rita Sullivan will suffer a terrifying burglary - just like Barbara did earlier this year.

The 72-year-old star was so badly shaken by the raid at her flat near Granada's Manchester studios friends feared she would never go back.

Now the wounds are to be re-opened in the mirror-image storyline.

An insider said: "The similarities are astounding. When we heard about the plot we really felt for Barbara because the burglary hit her hard. She hasn't felt safe in the flat since."

Rita will return from the shops to discover her front door kicked off its hinges and her flat wrecked. She is frozen with fear to think the intruder may still be inside but calls burly butcher Fred Elliott (John Savident) for help before ringing the police.

Thugs targeted Barbara's city centre apartment in March after breaking into a communal area.

This will be an interesting storyline, I wonder if it'll go on for a while, with Rita fearing for her safety, being afraid when alone etc.

It will probably show some of her finest acting - seeming as its happened to her in real life.

Thats not meant to sound bad.

i read in the daily star today (page 19) that corrie are going to bring back richerd hillman. apparently sarah platt gets a birthday card saying "sorry your mum spoilt everything, cant wit till were all a family again, Richard" and they are trying to get the actor who plays him back, they are in discussions apparently.

it says that richard just planted the body of a homeless person to make people think he was dead

Well that's total boll*cks.

Firstly:
a) We SAW Richard in a bodybag following his death, and so did Gail.
b) It would be a joke, possibly more so than the farce on EastEnders with Den. At least you didn't SEE him die.

IF he's coming back, it will probably end up being his memory haunting Sarah, and perhaps it's all in Sarah's mind and she's being targetted by someone like Eileen, who is sending messages posing as him.

He won't be back in the flesh, anyway.

The words 'Daily Star' are important. Produces news that even The Sun wouldn't publish!

I'm surprised there has been no mention of last night's episodes.

Blanche Hunt was almost in every scene giving her opinion on everything, then there was a guest appearance by Betty and not forgetting another slanging match between Gail and Eileen.

Before that episode I'd just said we'd not seen Blanche or heard any of her classic lines for ages - and there she was! I liked the bit where all standing at the bar corrected whoever it was by all shouting "lilac" instead of purple for the jumper Audrey had been wearing. Good stuff.

As for the Star's story, I can only think that any letters from "Richard" would be from some sicko playing up the Platts. I still think there's something sinister about Phil the Foot Fiddler - judging by a look on his face the other day he clearly has children he's not told Gail about (unless I missed that episode?).

Bringing back Richard (in the flesh) would wreck the programme's credibility more than bringing back Dirty Den, Bobby Ewing and Harold Bishop, the Colby's UFO, the last 5 years of Brookside, and the Dev's forgotten children storyline, all rolled together.

EDIT - the "Richard" letter could be a trick by David who seems to be turning rather odd of late.

I hope so. Lets hope its not just a 2 episode storyline like has happened in the past. They need something to show off Barb's fantastic acting. There are only so many times she can tell Norris to put the kettle on.

I totally agree, but with Kieran Roberts back as executive producer I wouldnt be at all surprised if this was true. Time for some new ideas.

Regarding Knox, it is not an understatement to say she is a truly magnificent actress (her portrayal of despair in the Cilla court storyline was wonderful), so this is a great idea to give her a new storyline.

Ah, this Hillman debacle had better not be true, but Jez is right, Keiran Roberts is the man who put Corrie out at 5 nights a week. It was not ITV's fault in this case, but his. However, I think this is pushing it too far. I think - well, I hope - it will shape up more as a nasty person targetting Sarah. My bets are on either Eileen, David or Phil.

Phil is most likely. It will probably grow increasingly scary for Sarah and the family, with Phil being there to comfort everybody all the while. Dramatic irony is always superb in soaps - it worked wonders in the Hillman era, with us knowing who was the villain - so I would like them to take this route with Phil: i.e. us knowing he's a bad guy, but everybody else being ignorant and not suspecting him.

I don't think Brian Capron need return at all.

Wuh?

Explain to me how the executive producer of a soap can tell the network they want their show on 5 times a week, and make it happen. Nonsense. Have you boys no idea how commercial television operates?

Corrie is on for 5 eps (+) because it draws the audience.

I suspect the only reason Jez objects is that he can't make time for his bloody DVD box sets.

Keiran Roberts ordered special double episodes during the Richard Hillman storyline and then requested they become a more permanent fixture the following year. Moreover, he publically made his intention to bring Corrie to 5 nights a week clear in an early interview.

Clearly, the Monday doubles have been successful and thus have not since been dropped by ITV, but it was he that requested them in the first place.

With this in mind, Gavin, you might want to at least try to do your research before you make assumptions and pathetic attempts at patronising people in the future.

I beg your pardon? Why are you being so astonishingly rude?

If you honestly think that an executive of one show can dictate the schedule of the network then you are showing yourself to be very naive - irrespective of what you may have read in TV Quick.

Is there really any need to be that insulting to Jez and Pad?

The Corrie thread has managed to avoid such petty insults and slanging matches to date - go take your condescending and rude views to another part of the Forum if you're not interested in posting about Coronation Street. This is the only part of the Forum I really take part in now thanks to the petty-minded, self-important rot peddled by some.
