the other point is does planning permission not exist in weatherfield, prior to the fire dev's shop had a little store room at the back which is an inegral part of the building, afterwards it is clear he has extended into this room and had a new store / office 'built' into the yard and level with the websters kitchen nextdoor Now when did he put in the planning application for that job I wonder.

It looks more like a reorganisation of the internal space to me, which was all already within A1 retail use - therefore a Change of Use application wouldn't have been needed. The building would've already extended out as far as the Webster's back door I would imagine, given that the houses would have been built at the same time - the old store room was the kitchen area before Alf Roberts knocked the shop through to the back room. We could have a really gripping plot with a planning enforcement officer from Weatherfield Borough Council serving an enfocement notice for not getting planning permission for a new shop-front though...

Have they recently changed the colour of the shopfront to red details? I'm sure they were blue after the repairs?

The shop's set looks totally unrealistic anyway!

Yes before 1985 when the shop was made into a mini market the actual shop was much smaller and there was a living room and kitchen behind the shop - the stairs up to the flat/bedsit upstairs were directly behind the door to the back room so lodgers in the flat had to go through the shop to come in and out. Now they have a separate entrance at the side to the flat.

Sunita finds out that Dev has lots of children with different women. This is the start of Sunita's leaving storyline, she is due to leave later this year or early next year.

Also leaving are Candice who leaves in a limo when she becomes Status Quo's hairdresser on Monday 7th November. Martin moves to Liverpool with his girlfriend, his last episode is Wednesday 9th November.

That soon? Pity that such a long running character is getting a terrible exit storyline, even if the character had lost it's way a bit.

I wonder if the new shop set is actually on the outdoor lot, like the factory, garage, butchers and bakers are, they could probably squeeze a little set in there with the back room taken out. I went inside the terrace row once on a studio tour visit in 1996, the set was being renovated so all the doors were open and as there were only about five of us on the street the tour guide took us in for a look. got a nice photo of eileens hallway full of props and equipment

changing the subject martins exit is a bit silly, considering he's a qualified hospital nurse I'd have expected him to be relocated through his job or something.

Though it makes a refreshing change for a character to just leave.

Watching the other night they were talking about it only being a 40 minute commute - but I wonder how many times Martin will pop back to see his family? Laughing

Martin has always been a bit of a pointless character IMO. Ive been watching Corrie for almost 20 years and at the time I liked all of the gang of younger characters like Kevin, Curly, Terry and especially Sally and Jenny, all apart from Martin. He really used to annoy me.

I agree - once Martin left Gail there was never really much point in having him there, in the same way that Janice has been pretty much a spare part since she split from Les.

This Dev and the many children storyline seems a bit far-fetched to me, they're going to have to be very clever about making this credible. The shop (and Dev and Sunita) has been featured very little over recent months.

WIll Danny and Frankie get back together?

I never liked Martin with Gail either, all he did was cheat on her.

I agree, but this storyline is much better than Dev having an affair as was originally reported. Its a shame Sunita is leaving though.

Sorry if this post is a bit off-topic...

I was watching some Corrie episodes from the mid-1980's earlier on today and a thought came into my head: was there really any need to block up the viaduct on the Viaduct Street? (There was this worry from Daran Little that they'd have to build another street behind the viaduct if there was a dramatisation of his 'War Years' book - it wasn't blocked up before 1990). There were a large pair of metal doors at the end of the viaduct as well a brick wall behind the doors anyway. Or was it blocked up for some other reason [in the storyline], as I remember it happening around the time the South side of the street was being redeveloped (the new Kabin, garage, houses etc.)

I don't know. We're seeing some great comedy from Cilla. She's so gruesome!
