I guess I should put a spoiler in too then:
Highlight to read spoiler:
I could stand here all day and praise Corrie but it just hasn't been it's best this year. 2004 was an amazing year for Corrie and 2005 just pales in comparison. That said, it has been consistent and I don't believe EastEnders deserved to win best soap!

Although that might be just looking at a few storylines in the summer, looking at the whole year there's been loads of top storylines that have all been at the top of the ratings. So on that basis they should have won the NTA. All EastEnders seem to have been doing is receiving lowest ever ratings every few weeks and reporting that they are bringing someone back which will put them back on top. It's as if the viewers were voting for the NTA based on last night's episode. Having said all that Emmerdale should really have won, but have no chance really.
It'll be interesting to see what package they use tonight on the NTAs when showcasing the past year in each soap

I agree with what you have written Andrew. I think they might use the Killer Katy clip for Corrie tonight when the nominations are read out.

Coronation Street was on form last year but has been failing since the Summer. Eastenders has been consistenly average whereas Emmerdale has gone from strength to strength with great characters and storylines.
The only deserved winner was Emmerdale (for a change) but to me the soap in third place won
a total shame all around.

Tony Warren with a special achievement award there. It does make me laugh the way it says "Based on an idea by..." rather than a more conventional "Created by.." at the end of every episode.
I can just see him sat in a room in early 1960 saying 'I've just got an idea for this new programme'!

That was a brilliant speech by Tony Warren.
Saw this on Digital Spy Forums from the Sun apparently
Corrie fuming after losing
By SARA NATHAN
and EMMA COX
FUMING Coronation Street stars missed the National TV Awards party after losing out to EastEnders.
The Street’s BBC1 rival sensationally picked up the Best Soap gong — despite being constantly thrashed by Corrie in the ratings war.
Stars including Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, Shobna Gulati (Sunita) and Kate Ford (Tracy Barlow) spent just minutes at the after-show bash.
They then set off for their own party with Emmerdale pals at London’s Funky Buddha nightspot before drinking at a Piccadilly hotel.

Yeah I read that in The Sun, should be taken with a pinch of salt, the stars never said anything, they just didn't stay and party with the stars from EastEnders, apart from Anthony Cotton I believe. The paper has just made a big thing out of nothing again, a spokeswoman said that they had already planned to have a private party, win, lose or draw.
