Today's 'Mirror' is claiming bosses have confirmed the axing of Janice, Sunita and co. They also quote those who have been culled, who are saying they're fine about it and have no hard feeling -. including the legendary "I'm looking forward to fresh new challenges" Laughing . However - contradicting that is the 'Star' who are 'reporting' the cast are planning to strike. They feel the cull is unnecessary and the show is on top form. the paper also claims Les Battersby could be on the way out.

I won't miss any of those who have been axed. Neither Les or Janice have been the same since they split, so i hope Les does get the boot too...taking that godawful Cilla with him. Others i wouldn't mind seeing that back of are Shelly, Rita, Sarah, Maria, Fiz, Dev, Claire, Deirdre and Ken..yes Ken!! I wonder if anyone will ever be brave enough to get rid of him.

So that'll be Heartbeat, The Royal or Where The Heart Is then. Wink

I really wouldn't be sad to see the back of Les. I think he's one of Corrie's most wooden and unconvincing actors. I get the feeling that if in any doubt as to how to deliver a line, he just shouts it.
I'm wondering how long Betty is going to continue in the soap. I have to say, for her age, she is a marvellous actress. I really think she should retire from the Rovers now though (what is her soap age?) and join the 'oldie gang' (i.e Blanche, Emily, Rita..) a bit more.
Betty Driver is 85 and the character is the same age. I agree she is marvellous for her age and I could see her staying with Corrie for as long as she is able too. Betty has retired from the Rovers several times , the first being after the fire in 1986 (when she was around retirement age) however she has always come back.

I doubt those 3 will ever be axed, along with Betty and Emily, id say they are untouchable. Bill Roache has said he will carry on playing Ken until he dies.

Just wondering if anyone's bought the ITV50 Album, and knows if the Coronation Street theme featured on it is the proper version, as used on the programme, rather than the crappy orchestral version which normally seems to feature on TV themes CDs.

What a brilliant ending to this storyline.

Absolutely fantastic.

Bravo! What a fantastic, wonderful episode. Mixed with great drama and comedy from Cilla and Les (no way will I call Martin in a chicken suit comedy, that ruined it) and she finally got out. As Bev said it, Shelly's back! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Superb episode!

Sally Lindsay was brilliant. A great mix of comedy and drama too. Well done to all involved.

Hope it gets the ratings it deserved.

Absolutely brilliant, and I'm not even a corrie-fan.

Indeed another good one tonight. See the storyline had to be as long as it has been to deliver the required impact tonight. Everybody at home has been waiting for this day for months.

Good comedy with Cilla and Les turning up at 4pm, and the poundshop got mentioned again!

I couldn't agree more. I found the slow and steady breaking of Shelly at times difficult to watch, but the longer it went on the more I knew the pay-off would satisfy.

I wonder if the nay-sayers who wanted this over and done with months ago enjoyed it as much as me?

I'm just glad they haven't resorted to the usual trick of the abused woman killing her violent lover!

I am one of those who always argued against those that moaned the story went on too long as we all know that domestic abuse usually lasts months, even years.

Though a good ending, in the back of the mind I'm of the opinion the easy way out has been taken to please the fans and move on.

Good episode tonight though - and not knowing what was going to happen really improved it. We didn't know that Shelly would escape Charlie's clutches, for all we knew he was going to kidnap her!

Episode stolen though by the scene will Cilla and Les in the church! Classic!
