Anyone get the feeling the episodes are out of synch again. Sunday and Mondays 7.30pm editions felt like they should have been paired together.

Its because there were 6 episodes last week so we are one episode ahead

Both episodes tonight were surpeb, I loved the ending, it was better because we didnt know what was going to happen.

Like the days before the TV companies felt the need to leek the plots to the tabloids then?

Candidate for worst special effect of the year in tonight's episode - the picture of Alf Roberts superimposed over one of Rita Fairclough at a trade conference they weren't meant to be together at!!!!

Funny how it all works out in the end!

Funniest bit was Kirky saying he'd seen Jimmy Saville jogging on the red rec, it turned out it was the women who runs the pound shop in the precinct!
How many times did they say 'Jimmy Saville'!

Exactly! By far the best TV moment of this year - and recent years - was an episode of Shameless earlier this year when one of the key characters left - and we had no idea he was going until a few minutes before. At one point it also looked like the whole cast were going!

As for Corrie, I was quite surprised we got the definitive answer - I thought we'd break before the "I do/don't"

Next episode looks very good from the episode description:

Episode written by John Fay

Highlight to read first part, just in case it may spoil it for some of you: Arrow Charlie puts Shelley's life at risk, she's finally got what she wants - but at what cost? Kirk finds a new vocation as a paparazzo. Football mascot Martin falls fowl of the opposition.

Good for Shelley, saying "NO!" Excellent episodes tonight and last night - as someone said a few posts back, we're back to the correct balance of comedy and tense drama at last. Hope they keep it up!

Yes, last night was really great... and so good not to know what was about to happen in advance for a change. I really expected Shelley would go through with the wedding, just so they could subject her to months more of mental turmoil and purple tracksuits.

In other news now...

Corrie Culls Famous Faces (Ananova article)

Quote:
It's a night of the long knives over on Coronation Street.

Three characters are to be axed in a big clear-out - including one who's been in the soap eight years.

In one of his last acts before leaving, producer Tony Wood has ditched three female characters.

Janice Battersby , played by Vicky Entwhistle since 1997, is at the top of the list.

Pregnant Sunita Alahan , played by Shobna Gulati, is also for the chop.

And newcomer factory girl twin Jessie (Nailah Cumberbatch) joins them on the way out.

The other new recruit rumoured to be for the cut, mechanic Nathan (Ray Fearon), will keep his feet firmly on the cobbles for now.

A soap insider told The Sun: "Some characters come to the end of the line. It is the nature of soap."

All three axed stars, estimated to earn around 50,000 a year, will leave the show next year.

The source added: "Sunita is to have twins so the exit will be dramatic."

Two weeks ago Sky's Ann Montini revealed that Sunita and Dev were to divorce, so it looks like the plot's thickening...

Seems like a variation on last week's article in The Sun, although this one has been more widely reported. It'll be a shame for Janice to go, although her character does seem to have become a bit redundant since Cilla came on the scene. Sunita's nice enough, although she'll not be a great loss. As for Jessie, I didn't even really know her by name - just as 'one of those pointless twins' - the only shock is that just one of them is going.

I've been thinking for a while that it's time for Janice to go, she is just there but she doesn't do anything, I'm shocked about Sunita, shes a wonderful character. About time that Jessie was axed, maybe they'll develop the other character as the actress seems the kind of person who could handle bigger stories. And all I can say about Nathan is, bye bye! Now, next on the list, Claire! Let's hope the new boss, dubebd 'the iceman' can see sense and get rid of her.

In other news, Corrie seemed to get out of its summer lull, finally hitting the 11 million mark after a few months of 9-10 million. Corrie managed 11.6 million viewers between 7.30pm and 8pm and 10.5 million between 8.30pm and 9pm.

You have to wonder sometimes re these twins, they've only been in it five mins and then one is announced as being axed. Why did they bother at all, they arn't much more than glorified extras really. They might as well announce that the headmaster of Wetherfield Comp and Angela, Norris's wife have also been axed!

Its a surprise about Janice though, it won't be the same without a "Hey! Lady!" shouting across the street and the general common chatter of 'Lippy' in the factory.

Surprised about Sunita (wouldn't be about Dev!). Can't see why they'd axe one twin and not the other either!

As for Janice, it's a case of her needing a big storyline or going. Sometimes characters do take the backseat - the Websters are the best example, nothing for a couple of years but recreated as quite a comedy family this year.

The only bloke on the Street I could see them pairing Janice up with is the taxi-cab bloke (Craig Charles!) - but what would be great is if they are bringing in Cilla's son back from the Army, have him and Janice get hitched then Cilla become her mother in law! Laughing

The cast though needs a serious trim. If you look at Home and Away doing five episodes a week, the titles have about eight frames with two or three characters in each - but with Corrie your probably talking about twice that number.

I definately agree that the cast needs a trim, there are too many characters at the moment which is why so many are like "extras" and are underused.

Apart from Sunita im not bothered about these axings. I wont miss Janice and Jessie at all.

I'm wondering how long Betty is going to continue in the soap. I have to say, for her age, she is a marvellous actress. I really think she should retire from the Rovers now though (what is her soap age?) and join the 'oldie gang' (i.e Blanche, Emily, Rita..) a bit more. I'd like to see her sitting down in the pub eating a hotpot and chatting to Norris.
