According to today's Sun, many of our recent thoughts and comments seem to be shared with the new boss-man...

TOP Corrie stars face the axe under plans to cut the number of actors in the soap.
Ruthless new boss Steve Frost is understood to have held secret talks to discuss potential victims.

Favourite characters such as Maria Sutherland (Samia Ghadie), Ashley (Steven Arnold) and Claire (Julie Howarth) may be among those lined up for the boot.

Others under threat are Dev and Sunita Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin and Shobna Gulati) and Frankie and Jamie Baldwin (Debra Stephenson and Rupert Hill).

Newcomers Jessie and Joanne (Nailah Cumberbatch and Zaraah Abrahams) and Nathan Harding (Ray Fearon) are also thought to be at risk.

Frost plans a clearout when he takes over from outgoing supremo Tony Wood at the end of a year.

A Corrie insider said: “It is felt there are just too many people in the Street

“Nobody will be leaving in a hurry but we think the number of actors will be whittled down.

“Bosses want to concentrate on quality storylines and develop the depth of characters.”

Frost was dubbed the axeman after chopping top name stars while in charge of Emmerdale.

Clearly a pinch of salt needs to be taken with this... after all, how many times have we heard tabloid rumours that certain cast members are being axed, only for them never to materialse? However, it sounds like an encouraging sign. I can't say I'd miss any of the characters mentioned really.

I agree this article needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if it is true its good to see they are considering axing the right people. The cast is definately too big.

Anyway I think its worth mentioning that it was 19 years ago today that Patricia Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner for over 20 years lost he fight against cancer and died. Had she lived would she still be in Corrie today I wonder?

Corrie star battles lung disease

Actress Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth in ITV soap Coronation Street, is suffering from the incurable lung disease emphysema.
Dawn, 65, was diagnosed 18 months ago and has just signed a new one-year contract with the soap. She told the Sunday Mirror: "I'm doing really well."

The condition, known as a smoker's disease, causes progressive damage to the lungs and can eventually kill.

Dawn, who used to be a heavy smoker, has been in the show for 30 years.

"I am just grateful that I have found a fantastic specialist," she told the newspaper.

'Carry On'

"He has worked out medication that means I can carry on doing what I love, which is being a mum and a grandma and working on Coronation Street."

A spokesperson for the show said Dawn was still able to meet the demands of filming the soap.

"Liz is a highly valued and popular member of the cast," she said. "She continues to work as hard as ever.

"She loves her job and throughout her health problems, she has wanted to carry on working."

Royal honour

Dawn was made an MBE for services to charity in 2000 after raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for hospitals in the Manchester and Leeds area.

US chat chow host Johnny Carson and British actress Pat Coombs also suffered from emphysema.

The disease usually affects older people and is generally the result of long-term damage to the lungs, such as a lifetime of smoking.

The disease can start as mild breathlessness but over time can leave sufferers struggling to breathe and reliant on oxygen.

Candidate for worst special effect of the year in tonight's episode - the picture of Alf Roberts superimposed over one of Rita Fairclough at a trade conference they weren't meant to be together at!!!!

I liked the storyline about R'Chesney seeing Sally Webster in the nude tonight, with all the men of the street discussing it!

Pretty seemless edit though tonight switching from Les telling Chesney he wouldn't tell anyone about Sally to Les telling everyone in the pub.

A good episode tonight, with about the right mix of comedy and drama. Liked the Rita and Norris storyline, especially with Emily in the pub!

I liked that too!

Really good episode tonight. The scenes with Rita, Angela and Norris were really funny, and I cant wait to see what Audrey will say to Rita tommorow!

The cliffhanger at the end was good and im looking forward to tommorows which is what good cliffhangers should do.

Regards to Liz Dawn. Hope she can continue for as long as possible - she and Bill Tarmey are an institution to Corrie.

As the article said, Emphysema starts with bouts of mild breathlessness, eventually leading to a constant need for oxygen,
usually from a nebuliser machine. Emphysema has no known cure, and it gradually worsens over time. I should know,
the exact same thing happened to my mother, (God rest her soul) she had it for the final few years of her life.

Sadly, it looks like Jack and Vera aren't going to be in Corrie for very much longer. Maybe they'll be around for a few
more years, but I think it's quite likely that both Liz Dawn and Bill Tarmey will have retired from Corrie before 2010.

Maybe Jack and Vera will leave Corrie once they have their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007.

I wish Liz all the best.

Anyone get the feeling the episodes are out of synch again. Sunday and Mondays 7.30pm editions felt like they should have been paired together.
