I think that goes to show that there are simply too many people in the programme these days. Some of them seem to be little more than bit-parts, meaning that proper character development is impossible.

Instead they seem to go for over-the-top cartoon characters with no depth, just so they can make as much impact in what little time they have on screen. The result is the likes of Diggory, Yana and the twins (sorry, I can't be bothered to remember their names).

Just saw the new Corrie ad finally and I must say it's one of the best ones they have done, up there with the 'Killer Corrie' one, much better than the Killer Katy one IMO. I can't wait for Monday. Very Happy

The one I saw this afternoon was slightly different to the other one - I think an extended version with comments from Violet and Liz, plus a different ending involving Roy saying something about marriage being like banking - after a while you lose interest!

Out of those, the only 2 that I'm finding really annoying are Crabby and Nathan.
Diggory is only in it about 2 minutes a week so its almost like saying you want to axe an extra sat in the Rovers.

Scooter hasn't been on for a while, I don't think he's that bad, we'll have to see what his next storyline is, Sarah has become very poor in the past year, at one time she was award winning, now she's on your axe list. I wouldn't get rid though, you can't get rid of any of the Platts!

Clare, well, are you sure it isn't just because she's a nice person, you'd only hate her if she started two timing Ashley!

Thats exactly why they should axe Diggory, he is hardly ever there and adds nothing to the series. Waste of space really. And he is very annoying when he does appear.

Scooter is boring and like Diggory is hardly ever there so whats the point in him. Sarah has been overused so needs to be written out as there isnt really anywhere else to take her.

Claire, nice as she is, is ever so boring. They cant kill of another of Ashley's wives so they need to write them both out.

Out of the newer cast i like Violet, Lloyd and Molly so they can stay.

Agreed. The majority of newcomers these days have very little character development which is why most of them are unpopular.

Looking forward to the Les Battersby Quo wedding spectacular. Cool

Not sure about this Quo nonsense - it's a cameo for cameo sake!

And don't think they're actually around for Les & Cilla's wedding - the Quo appear next Friday and Les & Cilla get married on Halloween (a Monday as chance would have it! Laughing )

Alright! Calm down! (.. down deeper and dow ...you know) Wink

At least the Quo will have a point for appearing, what with Les being a fan and all that. Unlike Tony Christie's cameo in Emmerdale..

According to today's Sun, many of our recent thoughts and comments seem to be shared with the new boss-man...

Quote:
TOP Corrie stars face the axe under plans to cut the number of actors in the soap.
Ruthless new boss Steve Frost is understood to have held secret talks to discuss potential victims.

Favourite characters such as Maria Sutherland (Samia Ghadie), Ashley (Steven Arnold) and Claire (Julie Howarth) may be among those lined up for the boot.

Others under threat are Dev and Sunita Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin and Shobna Gulati) and Frankie and Jamie Baldwin (Debra Stephenson and Rupert Hill).

Newcomers Jessie and Joanne (Nailah Cumberbatch and Zaraah Abrahams) and Nathan Harding (Ray Fearon) are also thought to be at risk.

Frost plans a clearout when he takes over from outgoing supremo Tony Wood at the end of a year.

A Corrie insider said: “It is felt there are just too many people in the Street

“Nobody will be leaving in a hurry but we think the number of actors will be whittled down.

“Bosses want to concentrate on quality storylines and develop the depth of characters.”

Frost was dubbed the axeman after chopping top name stars while in charge of Emmerdale.

Clearly a pinch of salt needs to be taken with this... after all, how many times have we heard tabloid rumours that certain cast members are being axed, only for them never to materialse? However, it sounds like an encouraging sign. I can't say I'd miss any of the characters mentioned really.

Pretty much agree with the axe list except for Frankie and Jamie. Debra Stevenson is just brilliant, and unlike most the rest on the axe list, they have developed some kind of character for Jamie.

Re: Status Quo - yes, Les may be a fan, but it doesn't mean they should turn up in the pub down the road.

Re: Billy Brown - I mentioned a few weeka ago it was reported another member of Cilla's clan would be joining the Street, and noticed yesterday Fiz mentioning Billy.

I agree with 'Brekkie' about Status Quo, the whole thing is just ludicrous. Rolling Eyes They do play at the wedding though. One of them decks Les, so to stop him from going to the press they agree to play at his wedding. A similar thing happened to me with 'Right Said Fred' in my local a couple of years ago..but I'll say no more. A deal is a deal..and the BBQ performance was cracking Wink

I think the whole story is made up. It's as if someone has just listed a load of characters that are slightly less important

I like the line "Favourite characters such as ... may be among those lined up for the boot". They may not be as well!
