NEW CORRIE BOSS CONFIRMED

Media Guardian reports that former Emmerdale producer Steve Frost will take over Tony Wood's job as boss of Coronation Street from December 2005.

Frost, who was the producer of Emmerdale from 2001 to 2005, will take over the helm at the end of the year.

The decision has been welcomed, since Frost boosted Emmerdale's ratings when the show went 6 nights weekly. Although there are no current plans to move Corrie to 6 episodes per week, it leaves fans sure that the Street is in safe hands when Tony Wood leaves.

Reports also announce that a host of fresh faces will be introduced to the Street, while plans to axe several characters will not be confirmed until Frost takes over.

-------------------------------

Im glad Steve is taking over. Im also glad that there are no "current" plans for Corrie to go 6 nights a week. Bad enough we have Emmerdale 6 nights most weeks.

Anyone see The Paul O Grady show tonight. Former Corrie star Jean Alexander who played Hilda Ogden was on it. I wish she would return to Corrie.

That's great news, Emmerdale is doing brilliantly so we can only hope that things get better, although I will miss Tony Wood, he's been a breath of fresh air for the soap and given it some of it's greatest storylines.

and I'm liking Molly already.

Molly seems OK but its early days yet.

The trouble is though she is yet another comedy character.

Although now it seems she isn't really much of a comedy character. The fact she is Diggory's daughter seems to be very minor. I'm enjoying these scenes where she's getting one over Fiz. Imagine 2 girls fighting over Kicky, whatever next!

Well now we are getting a new producer who does everyone think will get axed, or who do people want to be axed.

I think they should axe Diggory, Scooter and Sarah, Nathan, Crabby, Claire and Ashley, Shelly and Charlie.

Was it just me or did Corrie tonight seem a bit weird?

Like there was one thing where Steve and Tracy and the rest of Streecars were in the office, then a second later they were out and steve was in.

Then Bev was at the Arms, and then a second later she was home????

I always thought Bev and Liz shared a flat!

Also seemed strange characters like Bev, Charlie and Liz made no appearance till the final five minutes.

Back to the Wedding trailer - I just can't understand why it includes Roy!

Liz shares a flat with Maria ( the flat owned by Steve) whilst Bev moved into the flat above the bookies previously occupied by Sarah and Todd.

I thought that too - it was unusual editing to go from one scene with one character at one point it time, and then straight to them later on. I thought it strange when it was done with Steve, but I agree is was even stranger when they did it with Bev too. It's almost as if the scenes were put the wrong way around in editing!

I hope the new producer finally decides to bring a lick of paint to the Rovers before it reaches the 20th anniversary of the fire. In terms of who to axe:
Diggory and daughter - dreadful creations - Diggory brings nothing to the show.
Kelly - pointless and drab actress
Nathan - almost as wooden as Adam Rickett
Claire (and possibly Ashley) - they've made her so annoying.
The "twins" - pointless.
Mike's son (the Scottish one) - more wooden than Nathan.
Charlie - had my fill of his grin and the character.
Craig Charles' character - he only ever plays his grating annoying self.

More should be given to Eileen, Rita, and Jack and Vera (who I think seem like outsiders to the show these days, sometimes I forget they exsist).

I think some characters need to progress a bit - I see Kirk and Fiz as future Stan & Hilda / Jack & Vera types, and would like to see them move in together and for Fiz to get pregnant! I don't think they've realised their full potential and would hate to see them split long term. Janice needs more - she's just the gobby spare part these days - when did she last have a major storyline?

I think the Maria and Tyrone relationship is destined to go wrong but it's dull waiting for it - and they are more supporting roles in some ways.

Shelly and Bev should be reunited in running the pub together - they should buy it jointly from Fred. I like Bev and hopefully Shelly will see through Charlie and not get wed - I can't stomach the idea of the wedding not being the climax to the Shelly/Charlie plot as it's become tiresome.

Out of those, the only 2 that I'm finding really annoying are Crabby and Nathan.
Diggory is only in it about 2 minutes a week so its almost like saying you want to axe an extra sat in the Rovers.

Scooter hasn't been on for a while, I don't think he's that bad, we'll have to see what his next storyline is, Sarah has become very poor in the past year, at one time she was award winning, now she's on your axe list. I wouldn't get rid though, you can't get rid of any of the Platts!

Clare, well, are you sure it isn't just because she's a nice person, you'd only hate her if she started two timing Ashley!

Shelley is a good character in itself, of course now she's supposed to be annoying that's the whole point of the storyline. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point, probably Christmas Day, and Charlie will leave.

I think Lloyd is ok, although not sure I like him as much since he bought half the cab firm, whatever happened to that other driver, he was ok.

Talking about Jack and Vera, I think that's because particularly Jack is getting on a bit now so can't do the workload of appearing in a lot of episodes. I think you need to be grateful when he does appear, anyone else in his health would have quit by now.

Molly's great, I'm sure there's many of us who'd like to be in her shoes, no I don't mean chasing after Kirky!, I mean getting one over an old school nemesis. Also I always used to like Vicky Binns when she was in Emmerdale.

I agree about Claire being axed. They seem to have dug a hole with her, so if they were to axe her, because shes married to Ashley, their only options would be to kill her off which won't happen because they wouldn't do it to the character again, Claire would leave Ashley, again, I can't see that happening, or they would both leave, but I don't want to see Ashley leave and I doubt they would either, not yet anyway. So therfore, it looks like Claire will be staying.

God - if you start with an axe list you end up getting rid of the lot!

I won't go for an axe list - but a few changes I think they need:

Firstly, Fred should sell the Rovers and a new family should move in to run (and revamp) the place.

Secondly, Craig and his Grandad should move out of their house and downsize, allowing another family to be bought in - or the Websters to upgrade and someone new in their house.

With Candice going soon that flat will need new tennants - perhaps a way to give someone like Kelly a more prominent role.

And agree about Janice - she needs to be used better.

Somehow, I can't help seeing the Lloyd character as a less slobby version of Dave Lister! I wonder if any of the scriptwriters
would sneak in a Red Dwarf reference, and get Lloyd to tell Les Battersby to smeg off, or to call someone a smeghead?!?
