I have to agree with you Pootle5, I thought they had finally got out of the summer lull, but tonights helping proved me wrong, I had to switch off during the last 10 minutes as it wasn't doing anything for me, I felt tired watching it, and unfortunately, it seems like that's what we'll be getting for the rest of the week, seeing as Janice getting her hair shaved off was the highlight of the week in Coronation Street in most tv mags. I thought they were 2 good episodes, quite light but nice for a Bank Holiday.

I did wonder why Penny was so bothered about the girls being locked out of the factory, its not like she had shares in it or anything so why would she care. I like Penny though, dont ask me why but I do.

Janice doesnt look as bad on screen as she did in the pics in tv mags/newspapers. I liked the scene with her and Sally in the Rovers when Sally told her that stuff for her hair was meant for dogs.

Very good episodes tonight - well written as well!

I thought the opposite, there were one or two good bits, but some of the storylines appeared to be dropped in like they were in a bad episode of Crossroads (the original one). Claire's tirade about being public spirited was dreadful - and very cheesily linked to some ITV campaign at the end. The bit with Claire with the bloke in the taxi where she started crying was a bit pathetic too.

Where did Rosie get nits from - she's been off school for the best part of 6 weeks?

What was all that about the safari park and Deidrie's glasses?

Why was Penny so upset about Mike not turning up at the factory in time - her reaction seemed a bit OTT?

These were two dodgy episodes I think.

I have to agree with you. The writing was very random and sometimes silly in both episodes. Confused The absence of Daran Little and Jonathan Harvey didn't do Corrie justice this bank hol. Wink

Claire's sudden fascination with nature etc.

How could Janice get nits that quickly, not the mention how (as you said) Sophie got them in the first place. I find it odd that 'Janice' has worn a wig over the past year as well.

In tonight's episodes there've been several occurences of a very common misconception about headlice and nits.

Nits are the eggs of headlice, and not the actual headlice themselves . . .

I thought that was fab actually, I just loved the imagery of a gibbon running off with Deirdries glasses, a good excuse for an appearance of a pair of her retro spectacles.

Although hasn't this been done before not so long back, I seem to recall there being a storyline involving Deirdrie wearing her old glasses before.

Yes, that happened in the corner shop. I think (Sunita?) dropped a box on them or something and she rolled out the 70's wood-frames! Cool

Instead of the boring Steve V Tracy stuff, the latest tedious and silly Claire story, and the badly executed nits/lice story - we could have had a great Bank Holiday special seeing them in the safari park. I'm not sure how they'd have achieved the monkey running off with the specs (!), but it would have been better than an Acorn Antiques style description of something happening off screen - crow-barred in just for the hell of it.

Instead of having Claire in the taxi finding out about the garden project, couldn't she have just stumbled across it in the park like she did in the second episode? Am I right in thinking that when she heard the grunts from the shrubs she thought there was "something else" going on...!

The only decent bits were a line from David about someone dressing up as a baby and paying people to spank them, the Janice/Sally spat, and I did like the Websters de-lousing each other!

Overall, it just felt like loads of things had been hastilly shoe-horned into the two episodes.... probably to fill the time after having to write a pointless hour long one for Sunday.

I think I'll start taking more notice of who's written the episodes so I don't feel too disapointed when I see a potential bad one coming!

I did set up a thread on this topic, but I'm now going to ask specifically for Coronation Street - do you think the show would benefit from a summer break?

This summer has been poor - and suffered alot from concentrating mainly on comic stories with the only major storyline being Charlie / Shelley. This storyline has been attacked for dragging on too long - though IMO Corrie are right to drag it out as domestic abuse goes on for months if not years, not just a couple of weeks!

I do think that at least next year they should take a four week break for the World Cup with a big cliffhanger.

To me it's preferable to Corrie being shunted around the scheduled airing at any time from 7pm to 10pm on any day they can fit it in - but I can imagine the outrage in middle-England already!

Those people would complain even more if it wasn't on all together.

Look at all those people who complain about Neighbours being taken off 'for bloody tennis' every summer. Even though there is a perfectly good reason for that.

Let's face it, a Corrie summer break is just never going to happen unless ITV wants even lower summer viewing figures.

As for last night's episodes, it all did seem rather random - as if the scriptwriters had just dropped some acid. As Jez said though, Bank Holiday episodes do tend to be a bit lighter in their nature.

Janice's haircut was quite entertaining. Has the actress actually had it done, or is it just a very good bald wig? The shot of the hair being cut was so close up, there's no way of telling if it was hers. I think Sean has done her a favour really though - her hair beforehand looked like a poorly conditioned helmet.

Theres a sad irony to that.

Just less episodes every week would help! Get rid of the 2nd Monday episode and stop pointless hour long episodes (like Sunday's) and reserve them for big plot endings only. They are killing the goose...
