I haven't seen Damon and Debbie... there was another Brookie spin-off as well with Tracy Corkhill. I'd forgotten about those.

Late-night Hollyoaks spin-offs are usually terrible, but the first one with Luke's rape was excellent and superbly acted.

Anyway, on topic, sounds like a typical gay scenario that Sean ends up in Rolling Eyes

Ive not seen the Brookie spin off's either as I didnt start watching until the 1990s. However I agree the Hollyoaks late night special when Luke was raped was superb, Hollyoaks was one of the best soaps around in those days and has gone slowly down hill IMO since 2001.

Yes its looks like Tim turns out to be another Karl really doesnt it. Rolling Eyes Except of course this time its Sean who has done all the chasing.

The start of tonigh't Corrie was a bit weird! Instead of the audio we were supposed to be hearing, here on UTV we heard the audio from the adverts that were lined up for the ad break! It continued for almost 3 adverts! Did this happen anywhere else?

Of course in typical UTV style there was no apology whatsoever!

I missed the start so didn't see (/hear) that.

Do any other UTV viewers find Julian Simmons rather annoying when he does his, "And naw on Cora-nation Street..." thing?

I've just ordered the Corrie box set from Amazon, it should arrive tomorrow - I think I'll watch them all in one go!

LOL! All 80 of them. I finished mine yesterday, took just under 2 weeks. Some superb episodes and definately better than what we have now, im sure you will enjoy them. There are lots of camera's/microphones in view at the top of the screen for a few seconds at a time, and fluffed lines especially in the early 1970s episodes, which goes to show it wasnt just Crossroads which had that. However this was because it was too expensive to re record scenes so fluffed lines got left in.

I did notice that on one episode from 1977 and one episode from 1978 they appear to have used the Granada Plus version broadcast in 1997/8, as the countdown clock thing was the Granada Plus one and the endcap said a Granada Television Production for GSB. I wonder if there was a problem with the original copy's of these episodes and they used the Granada Plus butchered versions?

Another thing ive noticed about the old episodes is that the majority of the cast are middle aged or older. In those days there was only Lucille Hewitt and later Tricia, Gail and Deirdre who were younger, and they were all about 18-22, and of course there was Tracy love but she was only a baby. I think these days there are a few too many youngsters in the show and the older characters are underused.

Yep, the older characters today are under-used whereas in the 1960's/70's and some of the 80's they formed the core of the storylines of these times. I too, like you, first saw 1970's Coronation Street through the Granada Plus repeats and loved how 'real' it was, it was a bit staid or rusty but the episodes grew on me. I think the same reason as you concerning the GSB endcaps on those two episodes - perhaps the originals couldn't be found, or vice versa.

I wouldn't say older characters are underused today at all, but I suppose if you're talking storyline wise then I suppose I agree.

One of them was the Ogden's 2nd honeymoon, the last episode on the 1977 DVD. Certain clips from that episode have been shown so many times I wouldnt be surprised if the original copy is broken. Smile

Granada Plus were great and I saw a good 10 years worth of Corrie from before I started watching on ITV. They did edit the episodes in the early days though, I have a copy of 1 episode from Granada Plus that was on the DVD and there was at least 1 scene taken out, this was for timing though as they showed loads of ads.

Look out for Liz Dawn who plays Vera Duckworth as extra in the street and the Rovers in some episodes from 1972/1973. She first appeared as Vera in 1974. Jack didnt appear until Gail and Brian's wedding in Nov 1979 (which is the final episode on the DVD). Ivy Tilsley's family werent introduced until 1978/9 when they moved into the Street but Ivy appeared for years before that in the factory/warehouse and in a 1975 episode she mentions that her husband is called Jack and that she has no children, then in 1978 "Our Brian" turns up and her husband is called Bert.

It all depends what everyone is calling old. I mean Mike Baldwin is always involved in a storyline and he's not exactly young. Audrey is always involved in the latest Platt's storyline. Emily Bishop and all the other oldies was in the Mel Hutchright storyline only a few weeks ago, plus Blanche Hunt is in every scene lately.

On tonight's episode, Danny Baldwin referred to Kelly as "Legs", I thought she was "Crabby" and that Sonia one used to be "Legs"?

I have read about the Ivy/Vera 'confusion' (if you like) in many of Daran Little's books; it seems quite confusing though that it took a number of years for Vera's husband to finally materialise, though as Ena said at Brian and Gail's wedding, maybe she didn't like to be seen out with him Laughing

I first noticed Vera in the background in one 1970's episode during the Granada+ run, it should be nice to see those old background appearances from actors before they became Corrie regulars - I understand Jack also did quite a few, as well as those later characters such as Don Brennan, etc.

Andrew - think you're right about "Legs".
