I can't even remember who Keith is...!
Kelly Crabtree is just annoying. There's potential with the twins, which was hinted at on Wednesday's episode through Sean (only just got around to watching that on video). Scooter is pointless, I agree, though the speech-writing with Gail was all right. David Platt is a good character (and well acted) - they ought to make more of him. Hasn't Martin gone very grey...?!
The scene between Deirdre and Blanche in the most recent episode shows what the writers can still do, however.
"What - no parsley sauce?"
The reality of ageing and looking after ageing parents is captured brilliantly, reminiscent at times of Alan Bennett's "Talking Heads". It's worth persevering with this programme...

Sorry, but I thought last night's episodes were utterly dismal, and were Corrie at its most pathetic. The whole fight thing was totally unrealistic, like something out of a cartoon. I half expected a big flashing red lump to appear on Ashley's foot when the dumbell fell on it. Also, did anyone else notice how the police arrived within a minute of the fight in the crowd breaking out? Are we really supposed to believe that? It's as if they've got the Neighbours scriptwriters in at the moment; the whole show's just got so silly.
I get the feeling that ITV has leaned on Corrie as a ratings crutch for so long now that it's in danger of snapping.

Corrie has been a bit of a pantomime of late, so you may be interested to read this :
Quote:
Coronation Street stars will appear in the first ever all-star Corrie pantomime this Christmas.
Millions of viewers will be able to watch the hit soap's characters appear in a Boxing Day special in which the actors will play characters from a number of different pantomimes.
The one off programme is the brainchild of the Street's producer Tony Wood, who explained: "The script begins as Cinderella, but descends into panto-anarchy as other characters from other pantos break in."
Casting has not yet begun but Tina O'Brian, who plays Sarah Louise Platt in the soap, is hotly tipped for the role of Cinderella.

It really was pathetic, it just went too far - there were comedy sound effects too - the sound of breaking glass was lifted straight from a very poor sound effects tape, and when was the last time you heard a two-tone police siren like that one? As for the police having full riot gear...
It's losing credibility by every episode at the moment. I at least hope we'll never see the stupid cloned butchers again.
Push it much further and people will switch off, I've said this before - it's become more like Rentaghost than a gritty yet warm hearted northern soap.
I don't want Richard Hillman, Miya or murderous storys all the time, but the crop of "serious" storys either feel recycled (Steve and Tracey - Mike and surprise son no.3); poorly executed, dull and tedious (Shelly); or "don't care" (Leanne & Danny).
