Strange the way they always add a filmy look to trailers.

At least they're not adding it to the actual show. There'd be several pages of complaints about it in this thread!

Agreed. I've no personal objections to filmy effects being added to programmes, but only for the right kind of programmes. It works well on expensive dramas and shows with a serious edge - or even dark comedies like The Leage Of Gentlemen, but it would just look odd on soaps. Having said that, up until the early 80s, exterior shots on Corrie did look filmy... because they were shot on film!

Is it true that the reason Claire is training to be a bus driver is that there is going to be a big bus crah?

Coronation Street has received the most nominations out of all six soaps in the panel voted categories in the British soap awards. Corrie has 11 nominations while most other soaps have 7 or 8.

A full list of nominations can be found here http://www.thecustard.tv/linksandlists/soapawards.html

Personally I really hope Maggie Jones wins best comedy, and Mad Maya wins loads especially storyline, villan and spectacular scene. And schmeichel and Chesney should get best on screen partnership. Id also like to see Family Affairs get something as they havent won any in the past. And FIX! - Barbara Knox has been robbed of Best Actress again!

Id like the following to win;

Best Comedy Performance - Maggie Jones (Corrie)
Dramatic Performance - Kazia Pelka (Family Affairs)
Dramatic performance by young actor - Sam Aston (Corrie)
Soap Bitch - Kate Ford (Corrie)
Best Exit - Maya Sharma (Corrie)
Newcomer - dont like any of them much but Anthony Cotton (Corrie)
On Screen Partnership - Sam Aston and Schmeichel (Corrie)
Storyline - Maya's revenge on Dev and Sunita (Corrie)
Spectacular Scene - Maya blows up Dev’s shops and takes Dev and Sunita hostage (Corrie)
Single Episode - Charity and Tom’s wedding (Emmerdale)
Actor - Simon Gregson (Corrie)
Actress - Elizabeth Estensen (Emmerdale)
Villan - Maya (Corrie)
Sexiest Male - Danny Young (Corrie)
Sexiest Female - Sammy Winward (Emmerdale)
Best Soap - Coronation Street

Is this the first year that the public get to vote for best soap, or am I going mad?

Anyway, hopefully Corrie will win best soap and deservedly so. If EastEnders win then there will be uproar (mostly from me Very Happy ).

No the public have always voted Best Soap, along with Actor, Actress, Villan and Sexiest Male/Female. The panel voted the remaining 10 or so categories.

Corrie *should* win it this year, if they dont after the brilliant year they have had there is something wrong somewhere.

I think we said that last year though, and the year before that. You just know that EastEnders will pick up a significant number of awards, anyone know the results from last year?

oh right. I remember last year that many tv critics (Tina Baker, Richard Arnold, Ian Hyland) said that corrie were robbed and it was a bit of a shocker EastEnders won most awards

The year before last Corrie did very well and swept the board with about 9 awards and EE got only 3, last year they didnt do so well but got at least 5. This year im quite confident of a Corrie victory - very pleased with the nominations in the panel voted categories actually, I am certain Corrie will get comedy, storyline, spectacular scene, villan at the very least. EE are bound to get sexiest male but im not bothered, apart from Danny Young I dont really like any of them.

One complaint I do have is Barbara Knox isnt nominated for Best Actress - FIX!!!! Then again they have given her bugger all to do this year so she probabaly doesnt deserve it this time even though she is IMO the best.

Tonights episode was very good - great to see Cilla back!

Is it just me, or has Cilla become considerably nastier after her time away in Spain.

Ian McKellen was very good and the writing was brilliant.
