Its ITV's fault for being so greedy, they did this last November when Im a Celeb was on and last May when the first series of Hell's Kitchen was on. They are scheduling Corrie after Hell's Kitchen on Wed/Fri in an attempt to get more ratings for that show, whats the matter, dont think have any faith in their programmes that they have to resort to putting their highest rated show on in order to carry another series?. Its the Corrie production team I feel sorry for, they are the ones that have to do all this extra work.

I really enjoyed tonights episode, some nice scenes between Ray/Ken and Deirde/Blanche, we saw Blanche's nicer side there. Chesney/Schmichael and Lena were funny too. I also liked all the talk about Ken and Deirdre's first wedding, I was born the same month as they got married 24 years ago (July 1981).

No offence meant Jez, but I always though you were a little bit older. Embarassed

Didn't Maggie Jones look different in real life?

LOL how come?

Yes she did look different and sounded rather posh too - nice to hear her comment on the programme.

Maybe because I talk about old episodes a lot, although most of what ive seen comes from the Granada Plus screenings.

Oh thats not much moe than a normal episode really is it? I would have expected at least 13 million. The share seems OK though?

Same share as Den's demise and Tommy's death.

If it would have aired on Monday we would have seen much higher figures. Friday is the worst place to put a big episode as the ratings won't be that high. Monday is definitely the place to go for high ratings.

Why is it that recently the networks are putting big episodes on a Friday? However much publicity they give it, the figures will be down.

Not necessarily - found this on MSN Showbiz News:

"Coronation Street couple Ken and Deirdre's wedding caused a power surge nearly double that of a normal episode.

Millions of viewers were expected to watch the second-time-around pair tie the knot 24 years after they first said "I Do".

The programme power caused power to surge up to 1,200 megawatts - enough to boil nearly 500,000 kettles, the National Grid said.

Scriptwriters took out references to the royal wedding after Charles moved his ceremony back a day.

Before the royal wedding was postponed due to the Pope's funeral, it was thought the soap wedding might overshadow the royal event.

National Grid spokesman Stewart Larque said the power surge was "big, but not huge".

"It is nearly twice as much as you would normally get at the end of an episode of Coronation Street or EastEnders," he said.

The soap ceremony lagged behind the 2,290 megawatt power surge caused by the April 2001 episode of EastEnders which revealed who had shot Phil Mitchell.

An estimated 13 million viewers were expected to watch Ken (William Roache) and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride's) second wedding.

When the soap couple first tied the knot in 1981 it was broadcast just two days before Charles married Lady Diana Spencer at St Paul's Cathedral."

I know, it's so stupid!

The way to get high audiences is to scrap the Monday double and then when a big episode comes up, put it back for that week only - that will alert the viewer that something's going on.

I always used to get so excited when there was another double episode in the Tricky Dicky storyline, the cliffhangers were so amazing, and it was gripping! Now it's a drip.

With the amount of publicising that went into Killer Katy, if it was on a Monday it would have got 15 million+, amazing figures for 2005, but it could never achieve that on a Friday.

Same with Mad Maya, the atrocious scheduling ruined any chance of titanic ratings.

Friday's episode is useless in that sense. I suppose Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday might be a better schedule. Anywho, going off track here, but the Friday episode is definitely NOT the place for the big episodes.
