Wasn't tonight's second Corrie brilliant? I found it not just an episode but kind of a celebration of the success Corrie has had this year. Lots of good character writing, focusing on popular characters of 2004 like Chesney. Also lots of reminders about the year's storylines including Rita ending up in court, Todd and Sarah etc.
A bit like the live episode really where Ken made his speech at the end, addressing the street but also addressing the viewers.

I'm not normally one to say this, but squashing the credits when there were those fireworks going on was a bad move.

I agree, it was a brilliant episode to end the year. I liked it when they all sang Auld Lang Syne in the Rovers like they used to in the old days, and then did the Conga in the Street at the end. I also liked the scene with the oldies in the backroom of the Rovers with Chesney.

The new Adam Barlow seems OK, he wasnt in it much so its a bit soon to tell if he is a good actor or not, he is very good looking though.

Notice when Daran writes episodes we often get mentions of previous characters e.g. last night Hilda was mentioned by Sally and later Deirdre mentioned Ray. I like it when they mention previous characters as its like a tribute to them.

It was nice that they mentioned Rita ending up in court and Cilla saying some people know how to hold a grudge. I really hope they give Rita a storyline next year, Barbara is a fantastic actress.

I liked the ending with the Happy New Year bit, but it was spoilt by the announcer and promotion for the next programme, It would have been better if they had let the theme music play without any kind of ECP/Announcer.

Was there really any need for 2 episodes last night??

Apart from Shelly's dress incident nothing else actually happened. There was nothing last night which justified yet another 1 night 2 parter. It could have all been tied up just as nicely in 30 minutes.

It's not often Dreary D reminisces about Ray Langton...It's almost as if the producers are reminding us of their past and why he left - for just in case he pops back sometime in the near future. Rolling Eyes Or maybe they're not being that obvious and i'm just been cynical Wink

Agreed. After the omnibus today, that scene was cut short, and replaced with full screen end credits. Also a NEW sponsorship package to celebrate 100 years of Cadbury Dairy Milk (yum yum). It features a man putting 99 tiny candles on a cake and searching for one more, which turns out to be a massive one .

Yes they could have done it in 1 episode but wanted to get people back over to ITV1 at 8.30pm? Both episodes were good, the 2nd was the better though.

Oh well this week its back to the usual 5 episodes with just a double episode on Monday.

Glad to hear we have some new sponsorship adverts at long last, the current ones are getting a bit boring, better than the previous animated set though. I expect we will also see the Cadbury Creme Egg ones again soon.

last night's episodes were brilliant, all done in the bery best Corrie way, not the 'Enders / Brookie way. It made up for the grim, shouty Christmas episodes.

Oh, and a "Happy New Year " everyone!

Here are some 2005 Corrie spoils from the Sunday Mail. There's nothing that hasn't already been posted...but 1 or 2 things people were unsure whether to believe or not are confirmed.

Quote:
THE end of 2004 saw joy for some residents of Coronation Street - like newlyweds Ashley and Claire - but pain for others - such as Steve McDonald, who finally bid farewell to wife Karen.

The focus is set to shift on to some other Street favourites, with one long-standing couple tying the knot and a series of misunderstandings leading another pair down a tragic path.

Highlight to read on

Producer Tony Wood said: 'We ended 2004 with a big story for the McDonalds and Tracy Barlow.

'We do follow the fallout for Tracy and Steve as the year begins but not much as actors Kate Ford and Simon Gregson need some time off after their busy schedules.

'We're really concentrating on the Websters, the Harris family, the other Barlows and Shelley Unwin's relationship with Charlie Stubbs.

#A devastating state of affairs for Katy 'What starts as the story of Sally Webster's infidelity with new boss Ian Davenport soon becomes more about the Harris family,' says Tony.

'It reaches a shocking climax in March, when Tommy wrongly concludes that Sally is having an affair with Martin Platt.

'By now, Katy Harris is pregnant with Martin's child and when Katy hears this, she reconsiders having the baby.

'The whole thing leads to a big showdown - which will eventually result in the death of one character. Two people are arrested as a result of the death and the guilt for someone is overwhelming.'

#The Barlows' blast from the past 'Ken and Deirdre finally decide to get remarried in March,' reveals Tony.

'But the day is interrupted by the return of Deirdre's first husband, Ray Langton.

'We've flown Neville Buswell, who originally played Ray, over from Las Vegas to reprise the role.'

I completely agree. I've only just watched them on video after trying to catch up on Christmas viewing. I think they go to show that Corrie doesn't necessarily need shocking, dramatic storylines to be good.

Funny to see the Baldwins watching the Royle Family. I wonder what they thought when they saw Anthony's mate Darren... or for that matter, Twiggy's girlfriend Michelle. Wink

Also notice that the guy who played Kenny Senior in Phoenix Nights also played the Ref in tonight's Corrie, Sally Lindsay another Corrie regular who's been in Phoenix Nights aswell.

Warren's football manager was also a familiar face. He played Ned Glover in Emmerdale and arrived a few months after the plane crash in 1994. He also tried to shoot Chris Tate.

I knew I had seen him somewhere before.

At least Corrie could be bothered to get a 'stadium' or something like that anyway. When EastEnders did the football story, the team were playing in a crappy park.
