Just spotted this...

Coronation Street Annual 2004 DVD

It's a Woolies exclusive, but might be worth adding to your letter to Santa!

Finally, Ive been waiting for it to become available on Amazon, but now it's exclusive to woolies, and cheaper, I can't wait to order it.

This has been around for a while yet, so the latest scenes are the Fred and 'Orchid' scandal, baby Billy's funeral and the Baldwin's arrival.

I bought this yesterday Very Happy despite it being out since last month, I never seemed to come across it prior to when it bought it. It seems like one long episode, it is very good! (It's nearly 3 hours long) It also features two 35-minute extras, which are interviews with Bradley Walsh (Danny) and Debra Stephenson (Frankie), interspersed with clips of their arrival and "that" thump with Les.

On Christmas Day we have a Corrie special on ITV2 at 10.25pm, a tribute to Suranne Jones as she is leaving the show on Boxing Day. From what ive read in the tv guides the climax of the Karen/Steve/Tracy storyline sounds really good.

In the New Year we have quite a few characters who will be leaving the show, The Harris family (Tommy, Angela, Katy and Craig) are going, as well as Sonia and Patrick. I cant say I will be sorry to see any of those leave, apart from maybe Sonia.

Also returning to the show (on New Years Eve) is Adam Barlow, and rumoured to be coming back next year are Ray Langton and Daniel Osbourne.

Also thought id mention today is Corrie's 44th Birthday! Very Happy

I should also mention that the 'hit' 1995 single, Always Look on The Bright Side of Life by Coronation Street, well mainly sang by Percy Sugden (A.K.A The Late Bill Waddington) has been appearing on VH1 recently as one of Top Christmas Turkeys! No3 I believe, but good to see again!

Also Happy 44th to Corrie! I wonder if they'll do anything for the 45th next year?

Daran Little is releasing another book in time for Corrie's 45th. They might release a video as well, it would be nice for ITV3 to screen some classic episodes too.

Yes, happy 44th to Corrie.

From what I've heard from David Nugent of Granada Ventures, ITV are indeed planning to show a special programme celebrating 45 years of the street next year, like their 40th in 2000, as well as the book by Daran Little, as mentioned above by Jez. There may be a live episode shown, it is not confirmed. I think I should also mention that a DVD or VHS is being planned, same as in 2000.

If it's going to be a live episode next year then they will have to do something big for Corrie's 'Golden Jubilee' in 2010.

Yes, isn't strange how things seem to go by quickly? Smile

Perhaps 50 years of the Street will be celebrated as the 40th (albeit bigger, obviously) and perhaps through other Granada programmes - i.e., a feature on This Morning, maybe a feature on GMTV as well, as well as some sort of celebration programme.

From Digital Spy, 10/12/04:

Coronation Street will open a storyline focusing on HIV when Rovers' Return barmaid Violet Wilson announces to boyfriend Jason Grimshaw that she is HIV positive.

Violet Wilson has been repeatedly batting Jason off and refusing sex but next year she reveals the real reason.

Shocked and distraught at first, Jason will eventually come round to the idea and accept Violet's illness when he learns the nature of HIV.

An insider told the Daily Star: "Jason will feel absolutely floored when Violet tells him the news.

"He's fallen in love with her and thinks this is the end of their relationship.

"He reacts badly at first but only out of ignorance and stupidity.

"Slowly Jason accepts Violet's illness and the couple become stronger."

That all sounds a bit depressing and EastEnders-ish for my liking.
