Hardly strong when they tried to drop it and ultimately offered a weekend omnibus as a compromise.

I do think selected episodes makes much more sense - used to enjoy it when C5 aired Home and Away classics over the summer and the ming them kind of directed viewers to them.

Part of the reason was to try and get the Edinburgh and Glasgow broadcast sync up since Edinburg his 150Eps behind Glasgow, add in Ayr, Dundee and Aberdeen and there just wanted a single feed.

I agree about Corrie and not having them in order

Seems the ITV3 run of classic episodes will actually begin from 1986:

Classic Coronation Street episodes to be shown on ITV3 - Radio Times

Shame they're starting so late - means there'll be no Elsie Tanner, Annie Walker, Ena Sharples etc etc but I can see their reasons for starting from that point. I suppose they might broadcast the odd older episode from time to time?

And a great start tonight to double Coronation Street on Wednesdays. I had my reservations about an extra ep but they were solid and well-written. Particularly loved Rita's scenes and the mentions of Alec Gilroy, Len, Ted, Mavis, Elsie etc. Lovely touch!

Hah, that roof-less shot of Underworld looked terribly fake. They even managed to filmise it somehow which enhanced the fakeness.

Whoops! That'll teach me for failing to read a thread before posting... Embarassed

I am SO happy that Classic Corrie is returning at long last, 13 years after the closure of Granada Plus. It would have been great if they had started at the same point as Granada Plus did (April 1976) or even earlier. The latest rumour is they are going to start with January 1986 and show the episodes in order from that point. I think this is quite a good point to start from as many of the current cast like Ken, Sally, Kevin, Jenny, Audrey, Rita and Gail will be in the show as well as classic characters like Hilda, Bet, Mavis, Ivy, Vera and Jack. Plus 1986-1989/1990 is one of my fave eras (after the 1976-83 era) with the Alan Bradley storyline and early episodes with Jenny and Sally, 2 of my faves and they still are my faves in the current show. Its a shame that many of the original cast wont be there like Annie Walker and Ena Sharples but I guess they have to pick a suitable starting point. At least we'd get Hilda's last 2 years if they do start January 1986. Back in the 1990s when Granada Plus started their run many more 1970s characters were still in the current episodes like Mavis, Vera, Betty, Emily and Mike. Now we would only have Ken, Rita and Gail who would be familiar to current viewers had they started in 1976 again. I imagine the general target will be fans of classic corrie, but I guess by having Jenny, Sally etc there from 1986 some current fans who haven't seen anything earlier than the last decade may tune in.

As for current episodes, ive enjoyed Corrie a lot the past 6 months after finding it poor for most of 2015 and 16. However this weeks episodes ive not found that great. I found the wedding, catfight, Eva almost falling out of the window, maria bursting into the wedding and everyone watching, its all so cringeworthy and what ive come to expect from soaps these days, scenes like that have been done a 100 times before and its a bit boring now. I did like Rita's storyline and the mentions of Alec, Mavis, Fred, Len etc and calling herself Rita Littlewood when she sang as she was in the 1970s. I guess maybe im just more of a classic Corrie fan than modern day Corrie. Although ive enjoyed it much more the past 6 months just not so much this week.

There not doing a proper full run, there just doing random episodes all over the place.

Is that definite. I thought 1986 onwards was confirmed yesterday?

Random episodes on a regular basis is hard to put together.

I cant see the point in doing random episodes unless it is a very short run of say a month like when Home and Away used to go off air on Five and they would show old episodes. Random episodes are ok for a short run or a DVD release but I would definitely say if its to be a long term thing they need to pick a starting point and run with it in order.

I remember when Granada Plus started they did special themed events and aired 6 episodes about a particular character or topic e.g weddings. and showed some pre 1976 episodes. but even then a lot of the episodes in the themed specials were late 70s/1980s and early 1990s.

This is the special Granada Plus did in 1976 to introduce the repeat run

Just noticed on Radio Times Website the description for the first episodes are

2nd October 2.40pm
Deirdre fears Susan will see her as an adulterer, while Ken tells Susan he just wants to stop her getting hurt, but she moves in with Mike.

2nd October 3.15pm
Susan returns to Mike's flat, telling him that she loves him and wants to stay with him.

So that confirms its early 1986 going by the descriptions as these episodes aired on 15th and 20th January 1986 according to Corriepedia

Wed 3rd October 2.40pm

They maintain it has nothing to do with the adoption. The social worker understands and agrees to the adoption going through. Kevin takes Sally to tea at Number 13 so Hilda can get to know her. When Sally insults Eddie they are soon shouting at each other. Jenny tells Rita she does not want to leave Number 7. Rita tells her she can stay for as long as she wants.
