As I understand it, hospital radio stations are not under the same Ofcom obligation to retain a broadcast archive of six months prior like licensed mainstream and community radio stations.

Although in practice, a good hospital station would follow that principle, to cover their backs should they need to provide content on request, or investigate effectively any complaints.

Some hospital stations have long term/low power RSL licences but those are few and far between. They will be subject to the usual Ofcom regulations.

In this case of course, it’s more than breaking Ofcom’s rules, it’s breaking the law of the land as it would be contempt of court.

Anyway that radio studio looks suspiciously like a video editing suite to me.

What happened in Corrie to warrant this conversation about OFCOM?

Domestic abuser Geoff went on a thinly-veiled rant about his situation on his hospital radio show, painting himself as the victim after gaslighting and tormenting his wife so far that she stabbed him in the neck with a broken bottle.

Surely on the other manager should be at least checking the broadcasts (no matter the time of day?), its like saying he could be saying racist things on air and get away with it because the manager isn't listening.... (random scenario).

Generally volunteers have to work other jobs. There would be a degree of trust placed in the presenters and would usually have to undergo some training before hand. There is no way management could be monitoring all the time.

Before the days of streaming hospital radio stations with no FM or AM licence wouldn’t have been accessible to anyone not at the station or a patient.

Yet we are to suspect that whoever he spoke to gave him the go ahead to let himself have a rant.... Where is the good ol Jezza when you need him?

I'm no longer on DS but I read there supposedly the station has an "app" so at a guess would this include catch up? (I get BBC/comercial stations do this.... but as if by magic in Corrieland this station will (even though in reality it wouldn't...)

For me what raised my eyebrows wasn't more of OFCOM involvement (per se) but it was indeed the whole court thing, personally you wouldn't do that and especially if you are doing this on Hospital Radio, i'm sure its listeners would rather hear positive stories than this gaslighter being a victim of his own abuse.

My station has everything recorded. Their archive goes back at least to two years then gradually disappears, where those shows go afterwards is beyond me. We often get requests from patients or relatives of patients after the request shows who have spoken to us on air so they can have a copy of the conversation with the relative and host or relative and patient on air.

This is definitely more a contempt issue than an OFCOM one. It was the bit where he was saying he'd forgive her that was fishy as it implies guilt. Unless they've written the storyline that Geoff is the one who ends up prosecuted on contempt charges and Yasmeen's case is dropped as she can't have a fair trial, but that might be overthinking the situation.

I'm really liking 1996 Corrie so far on ITV3. We are only up to March but some very good episodes recently with Liz and Jim. I remember hardly anything from this era so its nice to see these episodes again. Its quite shocking that Andy, Steve and Vicky all seem to be on Jim's side. So much has changed in 24 years.

I'm doing some Corrie catch-up and I've noticed on a recent episode, Dev is selling cans of beer that are most likely out of date . . .

Can you spot them ... ?

In addition to my earlier post quoted above there's this from 20th July . . .

Hi Jez!

I've just dipped in and out of 1995. Have just watched the run up to and departure of Bet Lynch. And the aftermath when the Duckies took over. It's either a piece of writing masterclass or a last minute attempt at something because Jack and Vera - as much as I love them - take a helluva getting used to behind that bar.

Perhaps it's just that Bet was there for so long and became iconic in the role, having the Duckworth's there still feels 'empty.

Anyhoo, my question (which has probably been answered on here countless times) is this: other than the need to create a convenient storyline to allow for Julie's exit, why did this whole ownership of The Rovers even arise? Because as you will know, Betty Turpin actually owned The Rovers, unbeknown to anyone. When did she actually cease to become the owner?

Also notable from the era, the appearance and acting quality of Steve McDonald. I've watched this era for the first time ever as I had moved away from the UK around that time and had never seen this era before. I take it his acting must've gotten better as he's still in it today (Simon Gregory/Gregson).

Odd that they got rid of the other twin brother who actually could act!

Just my tuppence...
