Has anyone got any of the Corrie 50th anniversary books/DVD's/other things yet? So far ive got William Roache's new book, the official 50th magazine and the official 50th book. I have read William's book and its really good. Started reading the 50th book yesterday and its good but not as good as the 40th one IMO. This one does feature the 50 most popular characters over the years tho.

I saw the DVD's whilst shopping yesterday - does the more expensive one include whats on the cheaper one as well? I prob wont get the DVD set just yet as disappointingly most of the eps from the 60s/70s/80s are ones featured in the box sets released from 2005/2006. I will prob wait until it comes down in price as there is other stuff on there I want to see.

The more expensive 12-disc box set does indeed include the 3-disc set within it. I think I'll be waiting before purchasing too, but one thing I've noticed is that the episode selections are slanted heavily towards the '90s and the 2000s. For instance, the '60s and '70s are lumped together on one disc and even then there is only one 1961 episode on it (despite it being a very good one). There are only four more, all from the '70s. The '80s disc has many more but the '90s and 2000s discs have a tons of episodes on. And like you say all 1960s-1980s episodes on these ITV sets have been previously released on the Network box sets. Quite disappointed about that and also sad that this isn't really a celebration of all 50 years, more like the last fifteen or twenty...

The generations that watched the the show in the 60s are either dead or very old. I don't blame them for focusing on the last 20 years.

Rolling Eyes

Aside from the current incarnation of the Street, the 1960s is possibly my favourite decade. If you'll look past the bad picture and sound quality of the surviving telerecordings, you'll find sharp writing, great (and often biting) humour, superb acting and a fantastic variety of characters. No, it no longer reflects life as it is now, but who really gives a damn? It's just great television. And, if you'll take the time to browse around the net, you'll see I'm not the only young person with these views.

I'm 19, by the way, not 90.

I'm not disputing the greatness of Corrie in the 60s, it certainly was and all the cast were stars. Just not sure the usual Corrie viewer would be interested - the fact that it's black and white will turn a lot of people off for starters!

Shocked

Just think how popular Spielberg's film Schindler's List could've been, if only he'd thought to film it in colour!

tbf, there's been boxsets for the 60's/70's/80's already, but nothing for the 90's/00's so you can't blame them for putting more of the latter on the disks

What makes you think that someone who has only been watching Corrie for 10-20 years wouldnt enjoy watching some of the earlier episodes? I wasnt born until the 1980s but have enjoyed the 60s/70s episodes ive seen.

Corrie was so much better in the first 30 years. I didnt enjoy that much of the early to mid 1990s at all. I have enjoyed most of 1997-present tho with the exception of maybe 2001.

They could have released some different episodes from the 60s/70s/80s that hadnt ever been released on DVD/Video before and therefore hadnt been seen by the viewers for years.

Thanks. I will definitely get the 12 disc set then rather than the 3 disc one.

It is a shame that they often seem to ignore anything before 1990 on these special programmes - if it wasn't for the early episodes and character then Corrie wouldn't be on tv today!

It would be a great excuse for ITV3 to dig up some Classic Corrie - Granada Plus style for the anniversary.

Suppose the emphasis is on flogging the DVD's.

Id love ITV3 to start a re-run of Corrie from the very beginning for the 50th. I loved the Granada Plus repeat run - they started from 1976 I believe because it was the era when Corrie entered its heyday when Bill Podmore took over as producer and Elsie Tanner also returned from a 3 year break from the show. It was only on twice a week back then and Granada Plus flew through the episodes reaching the Mid 1990s by the time the channel closed down.

I bet they will repeat episode one of Corrie tho like they did in 2000 for the 40th.
