It's a disgrace that this isn't on ITV. Would have been perfect to celebrate the 50th.

It's so not an ITV programme though, it would stand out like a sore thumb on there.

It's very BBC4 however, it's the latest in a long line of similar dramatisations - they've done things like Hancock, Steptoe and Son etc all to a similar style

Thought it was great by the way. Excellent casting (especially when you compare the actors to the 1960's photos at the end) and I was nicely surprised by Jesse Wallace

Phenomenal piece of TV.

"They say this could run as long as The Archers"

"Ye Gods, I hope not" Laughing

Blown away by Jesse Wallace - who knew she was so good?

Every aspect of it was wonderful, down to the commissionaire at the desk of GTV. I think what made it so good was that we all (including the actors) have 50 years worth of imagery and memories to draw upon - so even though I wasn't watching the show all those years ago, it still resonated deeply with me.

Just brilliant.

She was very good as music hall entertainer Marie Lloyd in an early BBC (Four I think) drama. (I have a feelign Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey in EastEnders, may prove to have similar talent - and not be a one-soap-wonder)

Great picture of 'Violet' asking the gallery if she can redo her scene how she thinks it, "should be done".

Coronation Street is to get a special award at the Rose d’Or Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Wednesday next week. Simon Gregson and Katherine Kelly (Steve and Becky McDonald) will be flown out to pick up the award recognising half a century of soap success.

Festival director Rolf Probala said it was a unanimous decision to present the show with the Rose d’Or Golden Jubilee Award. He said: “Over its entire run, the series has shown originality, creativity and innovation, all the qualities which are the foundation of our awards. A further testimony is that the programme, 50 years after its first transmission, is as popular as ever and is still a huge ratings hit in the UK. Furthermore, Coronation Street is regarded as the gold standard by other similar programmes outside Britain.”

I thought Lynda Baron was wonderful as Violet. These two lines were written beautifully and, for me, summed up both Ena and Violet perfectly:

"Right. This woman's buried children and watched her husband beg for work - and she still gets on her knees every night to pray." and "Well, they'll want. If it's good enough for God, it's good enough for Granada!"

The writing was, of course, superb (well who could expect anything less when it is Daran Little doing the honours?) and what made the drama all the more engrossing and enjoyable was that it, for the most part, stuck to what actually happened. You felt Tony's joy at finding his Elsie and his pain at not being able to discover his Ena, and then it all coming together at the last moment. And Agnes was just marvellous, wasn't she? The saviour of the Street. Laughing

And Tony Warren himself as script consultant.

Did anyone else clap after Elsie and Ena's auditions? Embarassed

I thought it was fantastic! Well written and acted by everyone.

One of the best lines was about all the clothes coming from Bury Market (of all places!)
