Am I the only one that's worried that the "new look" Corrie may alienate its hardcore viewers? Those who are over 50, who don't want to see fresh faced youngsters jumping into each other's bed and hogging each scene.

I'd imagine you would be the only one worried about that, unless anyone else hasn't taken in all the press stories that have come out recently. They've all pointed to the opposite!

Quote:
Coronation Street is to lose some of its younger characters as well as some old favourites in the upcoming tram disaster, according to reports.

Series producer Phil Collinson feels that the Weatherfield soap has become too much like Hollyoaks.

Collinson is also looking to bring back more glamour by finding the new Elsie Tanner or Bet Lynch.

A show insider told The People: "Phil feels Corrie has become too much like a teen soap like Hollyoaks."

He feels that Corrie has been focussing to much of the younger characters and should return to what it was before.

Yet others report that anyone could get the chop...

The fact the main killing point will be the Joinery bar, which is for the younger cast, says it all Razz

That pic from the Mirror . . .

. . . shows what appears to be one of the new design Metrolink trams with the yellow/silver livery
Earlier in this thread, we'd established that Metrolink are donating one of their older knackered
vehicles to Granada for the tram crash, one that's already been involved in a real collision, with
the original white/turquiose livery and original grey circled M logo.

The Corner Shop in the picture shows the old one that got blown up by Mad Maya in 2004!

Also, that picture seems to show, that the damage on the viaduct would be only a few layers of
easily replaceable brickwork, with the shops being reduced to rubble. It doesn't even show the
inevitable damage to the tracks that would occur in an incident like this.

Hasn't it already been said that the viaduct would totally collapse, causing the tram to crash?

I think the more likely scenario (assuming Nick is opening The Joinery as a bar) is due to the
structure of the Viaduct being weakened by something yet to be revealed. Maybe it'll have
something to do with the builder using inferior materials, or something else entirely.

Perhaps the viaduct might not have rebuilt properly after the 1967 train crash!

Aye, I think it might be a map from something else that they edited, but it does help envisage how the crash will happen, the brick wall does actually stand above the building behind the viaduct façade and
it would make sense for the tram to fall like that in front of the viaduct, as it would block off the Joinery doors, as would the rubble

It all depends what the definition of young is.

Tabloid Papers assume that young = Hollyoaks style teenagers.

Coronation Street has hardly any in this category and those that they do have are always interacting with older characters rather than being involved in their own teen storylines. Therefore I think that quote from the producer is made up.

Unless they are talking about the people in their 20s and 30s?

to be fair they don't have that many young characters and as you say their near enough to do the parents or whoever's storyline. As long as we don't get some "Fat Boy" type character like Eastenders I think it'll be fine!

That Corner Shop sign on the Mirror's image hasn't been there for many years. It's Alf Robert's sign I believe.

There is a small interview with Phil in the Guardian (as well as quotes from Deidrick Santer, Paul Marques and John Yorke) about the 50th and how soaps have to compete with each other, it's a bit dramatized as its been like this for a few years now.

Phil acknowledges that people arent used to the Thursday episode and wants to remedy this, and he says that the crash week will keep people watching after the weeks ends as the drama continues

I think we are overlooking one of the most important aspects of the set in it's current incarnation. What on earth happened to the narrow ginnel between the Rovers and No. 1?!

Intresting report about the stage show of Corrie on the ITV News tonight. Showed a couple of bits from it too. Very Happy

I must say I'm loving the variety of new break bumpers tonight, there's talk of them earlier on but there's been a new one nearly every half tonight!

On a different matter entirely, I was really lucky to be able to go to see Corrie! the play at the Lowry on Saturday. Even more exciting was the fact that Bill Roach was sat 2 rows behind me an 'im. The play was spectacularly funney, definitely classic Jonathan Harvey at his best!! The audience were in complete hysterics at my favourite part of the play - Martha's boat and the death of Alan Bradley were done brilliantly. He manages to mix the serious stuff with the more light hearted with a very big nod to the roots of Weatherfield, Elsie Tanner and the likes.

It was a really super show and from the facial expressions to the very obvious observations that they make to the characters, the small cast of 5 were very worthy of their applause and I turned round to see a very happy 'Ken' at the end (although he didn't stick around) he was clearly impressed with the production too. I know he wasn't able to include them all but my only real disappointment was that the opportunity didn't arise for Charles Lawson to mention 'Elizabeth' and there weren't any mentions of my faves Norris or Sally, still, if you get the chance don't let that put you off any of you.

Blimey I sound like I'm being a right old luvvie here but as it's only on for the next week, go and see it, £25.00 well spent for any die hard Corrie fans!
