well they show the building behind the other end of the set so why not

never understood why they didn't just have the studio buildings visible in the backgrounds, not all terraces back onto another row of terrace houses, could be just an office block / factory unit that's behind the terrace, like the museum building is behind the new house (new?, they're 20 years old)

Except the old title sequence showed row upon row of terraced houses to the rear. It might be difficult for people to accept that most of them had suddenly been replaced by 50+ year old office blocks. Wink

I'm sure they'll use a slightly better angle for the broadcast.

The Bonded Warehouse is just pretty much assumed to be another building in Weatherfield, maybe Victoria Court (Victoria Court connects to it plus there's a few fake windows around the area on Victoria Street) and The Science museum is accepted as Nuttall's Brewery, but the street behind Coronation Street has always been Mawdsley Street

I think though BBCNIcky you have to face facts and accept they're not going to cut back - I expect the same argument was made when the third, and then fourth, episode was introduced too, and frankly they're more likely to decide to go back to making it in black and white than scrap an episode

I also dispute the opinion it would solve any problems - all the soaps have had good periods as a five times a week soap, and all have had lulls. Also I suspect if as some kind of compromised rather than scrapping an episode ITV had decided to say keep Corrie on a Wednesday but not replace the episodes lost too football the people moaning it's on too often would also be the first moaning every time an episode is lost to a match.

I know - it was more of an "in an ideal world" post! But I do feel quite strongly that certain continuity errors, to name just one problematic occurance, are as a result of the heavy work schedule and the rush to have episodes completed with only a tiny amount given to fine toothcombing. I also dislike how the lighting in the show seems really dull in scenes filmed on the interior sets, and perhaps that's because there is little time to have lighting set-up properly... just guessing here. It was notable during the "Goodbye Blanche" special a few weeks ago, wherein clips from 2004 or 2005 looked quite bright and colour-rich (not garishly, I might add) but clips from 2008 to the present looked really dull and boring.

Indeed - there used to be quite a few references to people "on Mawdsley Street" or "I think she lives on Mawdsley Street" etc etc, but they seem to have died down over the last couple of years. I wonder why?

Speaking of the outdoor set, somebody mentioned hearing a tram sound going over the viaduct in last night's ep (was it you Chewy?) I suspect there'll be more of that over the next couple of months...! Perhaps we can expect a few CGI trams making appearances in episodes till December.

(BTW - am I right in thinking that the viaduct collapses while the tram just happens to be going over it, as per 1967, rather than the tram unrealistically falling off and then the structure collapsing?
Bit of an odd thing to ask, I know...
Also noteworthy that the train that fell off the viaduct in 1967 was a goods train, whereas the tram will possibly be full of passengers?)

I think the lighting change was actually done by Kim Crowther, she mentioned in the webchat she actually wanted the show to look more "filmic", Phil mentioned in the ITV.com video interview they will be using new lens filters to make the show look better and more cinematic (I think the best example of this was in the episode in which Graeme and Tina were in the park) Since HD came along the colours outside have become a LOT richer. Can you remember when the Rovers got that nasty dark wallpaper? The pub looked horribly dull, thankfully Kim went back on her decision and brought back the gold and red colours for the wallpaper.

Aye, I mentioned the tram :p I'm thinking we will get a tram, possibly in the episode with John and Charlotte taking the roll of carpet Wink to her car. I'm glad they have started adding tram sound effects.

Also the way Phil said it, the viaduct collapses, then the tram goes crashing off it and onto the street, and there will be people on it this time too D: I'm hoping they do a few shots from on the tram before it crashes.

I think it was Vernon if i remember correctly, could be wrong though! It was put up with great fanfare then the wallpaper was reverted to the red/gold very discretly! Same as in Tyrone and Molly's house! There was an episode that involved them stripping wallpaper to redo the interior - the following week, an almost like-for-like paper went back up (replacing Vera's famous wheat print on deep blue background) with no mention!

I agree the lighting needs looking at. The show does look 'dull' on screen these days, but I don't see how that can be blamed on the frequency of the episodes. Corrie's been pumping out five episodes a week since 2003/2004. And in 2004/2005 they even had weeks where they were doing 8 episodes.

It's probably more to do with the production team themselves. Tony Wood made a point of deliberately making the show appear brighter on-screen by making subtle changes to the interior sets and lighting and I think Phil C needs to do something similar.

Deirdre and Gail had a scene, albeit very brief, tonight. I've noticed that they rarely, if ever, have any scenes together and given that they are of similar age and started at around the same time, does anyone else find this strange? Is there a reason for this? Do they not get along in real life? Is there soap history between these two from the 70s and 80s that I'm not aware of?

They had scenes together in the 1970s but not that many.

like Ryan's injoke about Sian (sian's coming out today)

I also liked Ciarian's joke about Ryan's music: "Sounds like somebody dying in there, you want to put a decent boy-band on". Wonder who he had in mind :lol

Westlife ? Laughing

That'll be it Wink Ironic Ciarian should mention that, because will be disappearing again-- his friend Keith Duffy has another tour with Boyzone coming up!
