Surely they could have extended the viaduct façade all the way up, they could have just put a door way in it for the vehicles

not sure how expensive it it but they could put up a green screen where the set ends and use CGI to extend the viaduct and Rosamund street

I think once green screen becomes more affordable, they will begin doing that

The technology is affordable; but you're right that the post-production is time-consuming (read: expensive).

But less so, year on year.

Generating a moving virtual background plate of Rosamund Street with actors in the foreground is something that could be set up and reworked for a shot or too a week without massive difficulty. A green screen could be permanently rigged (with cross-hair targets on it) and a pre-set composition all lined up in a compositor for weekly shots as required.

That's pretty much it.

They rarely use the two areas mentioned, so it could be probably done easy, though there is the green reflection in windows when filming nearby

Green spill is easy fixed.

Just remembered it's the Mill doing the crash - so green screen might be a one off. I say that like I know its happening, and I don't - but I seriously can't imagine it being effective without it, and its what the Mill do.

But we can dream. Perhaps they will be watching closely and copying the production practices for themselves in the future - maybe even for use with the back lot extension that Jez mentioned.

I'm imagining Weatherfield will be CGI'd and green screened in when the crash happens it'd solve a lot of problems with the set too :]

thought it could be done, the've done it a few times for things like maria trying to run tony over when we see a close up of her in the car speeding down the street and when Amy Barlow was stopped from being run over by one of the bookie bloke's whoes name escapes me (probably down because you can't really do a stunt with a van and a four-year-old safely)

guess you just need a static view like they have now of Rosamund street but now they have the silly viaduct they're stuck with it

^ I'd forgotten that was green screen :p

With the viaduct collapsing and the tram crashing into the street - wont this put the opening out of date again? Shocked

I think the Thursday episode of Corrie isnt working and the ratings reflect this - doesn't it get the worst ratings on a Thursday out of the entire week?

There are 2 ways around this - either move Corrie back to Sunday's permanently, although there would be a gap of 4 days after the Monday double until Friday. Or they could move it back to Wednesdays and on football weeks move the episode to 7pm and have an hour long Emmerdale (if they must) on the Tuesday instead.

I will also be glad when this Fishwick storyline will be over.

Carla is really brilliant at the moment and its great to have Sally back as well.

Still think swapping Emmerdale and Corrie in the 8pm hour would help on Thursdays as viewers are used to switching over for Corrie after EastEnders.

If one episode was dropped though (and I'd prefer the second on Friday to be) I think a flexible Sunday/Wednesday solution would be the best. Basically on Wednesdays in none football weeks, but with Sunday episodes to make up those lost.

I agree, I despise the Thursday slot, I'm always expecting Corrie after Emmerdale, then I remember
