So it sat there empty for years waiting for redevelopment? So corrie does take after real life Razz

No, the factory was in use until it was sold and knocked down. I seem to remember a storyline where Vera, Ivy etc turned up for work one morning and couldn't get in because Mike Baldwin had closed the factory suddenly.

Odd to think now that one side of Coronation Street was essentially just a bare factory wall

Certainly is. Looks better now IMO.

There was of course the community centre and caretaker's flat next to Baldwin's factory as well...

Interestingly in that shot, you can clearly see the end of the viaduct. No wonder trams keep falling off it. Wink

Indeed - you could see the café's front door when the old Kabin front door was open, and vice-versa. The two doors were opposite, sharing the same entrance vestibule.

I'm sure in the 90's they used to use an exterior which had that door going straight out onto the street?

That was when The Kabin moved to Coronation Street. The new shop originally had the door at an angle on the frontage which let straight to the street. It was later rebuilt to how it is now with the door in a recess.

And here's the angled door itself:

Whilst on the topic of the kabin how many times has the sign changed?
Not sure the order but it once had "POST OFFICE" with "the kabin" only wrote small at the side. Then it had "the kabin" with the post office logo with white background and another with no white background. Now, it's just "the kabin" and I don't think it's a post office presumably to keep up with the mass closure of POs a few years ago?

Did the address the changes on screen?

P.S. if the kabin isn't a post office any more how does it make any business with Dev's only a walk across the cobbles?

Because Rita is a newsagent and Dev is a corner shop.

Wasn't there a storyline in which Dev (or might have been a previous corner shop owner) decided to start selling papers, and so Rita started selling milk and bread in a kind of trade war over the cobbles?

In the end I think they agreed the corner shop would stick to groceries, and the Kabin would stick to being a newsagent.

I think so - reading what you said certainly made a bell ring in my head.

My area was full of wee shops, but over the years there have scaled back, The shop with the paper runs are now dealt with a shop 1miles away. Post office closed, etc so were only left with a Co-op. Shame really.

Exactly, if Corrie were wanting to recreate life they should really bring about that store war again. In this day and age if you can make money selling papers on top of you normal stock you will and not necessarily back out because of an acquaintance. I just don't understand really why there is 2 shops - how does Norris make a living selling papers and sweets? Come on seriously.
