So it sat there empty for years waiting for redevelopment? So corrie does take after real life Razz

No, it was reopened as Baldwin's Casuals after the fire in the mid 70s and was open and working until 1989 when the building was demolished, ready for the new development.

No. Mike Baldwin's factory was in active use throughout most of the 1980's as "Baldwin's Casuals".

After the new houses were built on the site of the old "Baldwin's Casuals" factory, Baldwin established a new clothes factory called "Underworld" in the new factory unit that is still there as "Underworld" now owned by Carla Connor/Barlow.

People seem to have missed out that the original Roy's Rolls was Jim's Cafe ran by Alma & Gail.

I never mist that out, it was just never brought up Razz Did we ever see Jim?

Here he is. Hiya Jim.

Prior to Jim taking over it was called Dawson's Cafe.

Joe Dawson bought it in 1978 and opened it as Dawson's. It was next door to The Kabin as there was a storyline whereby The Kabin had been operating as a cafe-cum-newsagents (must've been a 70's thing...) Dawson called the council who inspected The Kabin and shut down the cafe part as it had insufficient facilities.

Indeed - you could see the café's front door when the old Kabin front door was open, and vice-versa. The two doors were opposite, sharing the same entrance vestibule.

Good maps those of the changing face of Weatherfield over the years. Very Happy

Presumably then 'Arkwright Street' (a good name for a corner shop), that did at one time run behind the old factory, parallel with Coronation St has been written out of Corrie existance ?

Wouldn't it be where Victoria Street is now ?

Jim Sedgwick was of course Alma's first husband. Jim installed Elsie Tanner to run the cafe but after a while Alma turned up and sacked Elsie and ran it herself. She quickly got bored and wasn't seen again until 1988 when Amanda Barrie returned as a permanent cast member.

I'm sure in the 90's they used to use an exterior which had that door going straight out onto the street?

I've certainly seen that before. And how come the interior picture posted above doesn't match up with the exterior picture I posted on the last page?

Mysteries.

ha ha looking at it, nothing matches not even the door is the same etc. I knew the old cafe was not on set, years ago when I went to the Granada Studios Tour, someone said did you see Alma's Cafe and I was like no it's not there and they said it was. I know Sooty and Co was there though Very Happy

As I said previously, La Contadina Italian Restaurant doubled as Dawson's/Jim's/Alma's/Roy's until 1998.

That was when The Kabin moved to Coronation Street. The new shop originally had the door at an angle on the frontage which let straight to the street. It was later rebuilt to how it is now with the door in a recess.

No, the factory was in use until it was sold and knocked down. I seem to remember a storyline where Vera, Ivy etc turned up for work one morning and couldn't get in because Mike Baldwin had closed the factory suddenly.

Odd to think now that one side of Coronation Street was essentially just a bare factory wall
