Rather sad and ironic tonight in my region. The "current" episode aired on Showtime was the announcement of Blanche's death, when she failed to show up at Weatherfield after supposedly coming in from Portugal. Ken called Portugal and learned of Blanche's sad demise.

Two hours later on Granada International, they screened an old episode in which Blanche held her own "wake" at The Rovers, for some bizarre reason (4-5 years ago??). She was faced with the fake death of Betty Turpin, due to a cruel joke by barmaid Violet, and then Blanche proceeded to have a conversation with Norris along the following lines:

Blanche: Oh, did Betty arrange the Cress sandwiches as I requested? (for Blanche's "wake")
Violet: I am not sure, I think so. She's out the back preparing sandwiches now.
Norris: I've never really seen the point of Cress.
Blanche: And maybe Cress doesn't actually see the point of you!
Norris: How can Cress fail to see the point of me? That's a bizarre thing to say.
Blanche: Well, I don't see the point of you, so I can't imagine that cress doesn't either.

Hilarious. Really miss her.

I know - don't we all. Crying or Very sad

Although they won't be able to replecate Maggie/Blanche's quick wit, hopefully there'll be able to at least get another character that can even be half as good as Blanche!

A few spoilers that i got from DS:
Ages ago we heard about William Roach's real life sons will be in Corrie- one of them will be playing a his "long lost son" (not sure about the other son, as yet)

Lysette Anthony has filmed a guest appearance in Coronation Street for Lewis Archer's exit episode.

Paula Lane has been cast as Becky's sister Kylie Turner.

Maria will be returning fairly soon.

Natasha's story is a big plot across the summer into the early part of the autumn. and Phil Collinson says "All I'll say is, don't believe everything you read in the papers…" - so perhaps not sucicide?

Underworld will be reopening it seems - as Owen (Izzy's Das) will "be a a key player in the renovation of Underworld following the explosion."

Michelle (Kym Ryder) will be running the factory with Carla.

There'll be no returning characters from the past for the 50th "no big nods to nostalgia… The Street itself is 50 years old and characters like Ken and Emily have been in it for that long and reflect that."

Phil Collinoson has not ruled out a live episode for the 50th.
"Nope. We've not ruled it in either, though. Something like that takes an enormous amount of planning. We're still talking about it but I'm not particularly an advocate of doing it. We did it ten years ago and obviously EastEnders did it this year… if we were to do one, we'd need to find a way of making it radically different from any that have gone before."

And lastly on the tiltes:
"You have to trust your instincts with these things. I don't go online and read forums and blogs or anything. We wanted some titles to reflect HD and to signal that the show's entering a new era. I think they're beautiful, while retaining all the charm of the old titles and theme. Tony Warren watched them and was involved in the decisions we made - he said that they're the titles that we always wished had been on the show, so that's good enough for me." - So not a member of TV Forum them! I love the sound of
Carla and Michelle running Underworld, I dont like Michelle as she currently is, but in Underworld, I have a feeling she will be great

Also I like how Owen and new bad guy are tied into Underworld, with John Stape also being involved in Underworld Wink it will be very interesting

I also hope Owen takes over the builders yard, Bill is boring tbh xD like the sound of a new Charlie Stubbs type bad boy

Are we honestly supposed to believe that? Honestly....why on Earth is The Sun the most-read national newspaper. Complete drivel.

Well according to GMTV it will be similar to something that's happened before ( can't remember who though!)
and it wouldn't be on screen, more like Jack running in and saying "I just saw Vera! Laughing "

The "Wake" Saga Continues...............

Vera: And don't you think you'll be having a wake before you're dead, because you ain't.
Jack: Vera, love, there is only one wake I am looking forward to, and it's not mine!!

Emily: Is it still on?
Deirdre: Yes.

Blanche: Do we still have that medicine to break up wind?

I think the ghost thing wont be silly, like The Sun makes it out to be, I can see it being like the Marlon and Trisha scene from Emmerdale, when Marlon was sat on a bench trying to decide wether or not to take her off life support, but instead of just seeing him thinking, we saw him talking to Trisha, it was quite moving

Yeah I hope so too. As I think it's to conicide with his exit ; Mabye something like as Jack walks away from the Street he turns back and sees Vera.
Although I can imagine it will end up being the complete opposite of this! Laughing

Surprised not to see any comments here today about last nights classic episode seeing David Platt walk the Street with a radiator tied to his leg and Graham bouncing Norris up in the air in his excitement. I thought it was good to see that classic Corrie humour coming to the surface once again.
