With the current William Roache case, I notice for once ITV isn't too afraid to use the old regional name when it comes to talking about allegations.

So far on ITV News we've had "Granada Television" "Granada Studios" and "Granada TV Studios". I know Corrie is synonymous with Granada and it was called Granada at the time but you can bet a happier story would be using 'ITV Studios' a lot more.

Relegating the alleged incidents to a no-longer operating brand name is quite a sensible idea though, no? Leaves ITV Studios untainted by association.

Oh absolutely, it was only an observation, not a criticism.

The point is the studios were Granada Studios at the time and the programme was made by Granada. It's a serious news story not just any old showbiz fluff so you'd expect ITV to factual in their reporting, as well as quoting what is being said in court.

This sounds like criticism to me:

ITV is not trying to hide away from using the Granada name and I am sure the name would be used if it were a positive story from that era because that's factually correct. ITV Studios didn't exist then.

Well it wasn't intended as criticism, and seeing as I'm the one that said it, you can only take my word for it.

Anyway, it's just my opinion. I don't blame them, it is a good way of keeping it associated with the past.

The Roache case has been the lead story on several ITV News bulletins during the week, so I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with keeping the story 'associated with the past' but more about being factually correct and accurately reporting testimony as given in court.

If your views were applied to news coverage of the Jimmy Savile allegations, presumably there would be no reference to Television Centre, because the BBC has largely vacated this now in favour of NBH - even though it is claimed that many of the incidents took place there.
