Channel 4 News just had a bit of footage from outside the Corrie gate at Granada when some of the cast were entering. Bizarrely the actor that plays Les Battersby was there getting into a car. Hope he's not coming back (though can't imagine he would be given his reputation outside of the show).

Kind of makes this seem even more sinister.

What is the matter with the BBC tonight? They're constantly saying that Bill isn't currently appearing in the soap, which is complete nonsense. He isn't filming at the moment, but he's still in episodes!

They're actually right there, his next appearance in the soap due on Friday has already been edited out.

ITV have decided tonight to air a documentary which features Roache prominently as a talking head.

I wonder if ITV will get stigmatised by the Daily Mail for encouraging a culture of perversion by employing three actors suspected of sexual offences on the same programme?

Who's the third?

Andrew Lancel, who also worked on The Bill.

Today's developments with regards to the arrest of Bill Roache will be worrying for Corrie bosses to say the least a lot of Coronation Street's history is a threat at the moment.

Yeah, because that's what's really important here. Rolling Eyes

Yes, that's EXACTLY what's important here, and important to ITV I expect.

They have consistently built Corrie's history on and around Bill's shoulders and to many fans he IS Coronation Street. As Corrie is ITV's highest rating programme, I would say they have every right to be worried about the possible damage to the reputation of this very valuable brand.
Indeed. Had he been caught back in the 60s, would Corrie even still be around? The scandal may well have sunk the show (it won't do that now, as attitudes are more liberal nowadays, but unfortunately, it's the sack for Bill if he's convicted). In fact, it's entirely possible that Granada wouldn't still exist. Without it's flagship show, it's franchise renewal bids would've been weaker. And if Granada had lost to Mersey TV in 1991, it's likely that ITV plc would not exist, at least not as we know it. Without Coronation Street, ITV would be very different now.

Oh yes, I forgot about him. I suppose the difference with Lancel is that charges relate to an offence prior to his work on Coronation Street.

I thought scenes with Ken in had been dropped? He was in a few times tonight.
