Was that the first time that the Rovers cellar has ever been seen tonight ?
It's been seen dozens of times over the years, I think most notably in 1975 when Albert Tatlock and Stan Ogden deliberately got locked in there overnight to sup as much ale as possible.
If I remember rightly it was also shown in the 1986 fire, with shots of it alight with flames and burnt out the morning after.
Yes it was seen on a few occasions during the 1970s and 80s. After the fire in 1986 they showed the firemen inspecting the cellar afterwards as you say.
I thought that cellar last night looked different to how it looked previously, probabaly a different set.

It was shown several times in June 1986 when Jack Duckworth was attempting to fix the fuse box after the power kept going off. Then he put in a higher fuse which caused the fire.
That looks like a completely different cellar from the one where we saw Karl start the fire. In that version of
the cellar, where would the window on the right lead to ... Ken Barlow's underground torture chamber ?!?

Can't think why they put that window in as the cellar is below street level.
Could be more than one room in the cellar, and a window lets light flow from one room to another.
I see this is Phil Collinsons swansong - didn't think he'd been there that long. I guess they'll end up rebuilding the Rovers on the old set and then have to do it again on the new set when the Street finally moves to MediaCity.
I hear that Katie McGlynn who played "Scout" in Waterloo Road will be joining Corrie as Beth's niece, Sinead Tinker. Regarding the fire, will we lose the photograph on the wall in the Rovers? The one of Betty Turpin. Or will Stella or Sean have had another copy hidden away somewhere which can be revived nicely into a new photo frame and find it's place of honour on the new Rovers set. I wonder.

I believe the cellar where the fire was started is underneath the yard, and through the window is the part of it that's under the buliding itself. Perhaps THAT'S where the kitchen is, consider there's no way it could fit anywhere else

And Katie's character gets with Chesney later this year.
