I beg of you all not to recommence the Salford/Manchester debate - its utterly turgid to read and completely academic to everyone who doesn't live there or care.

Although, by now, you would have thought that everyone knew that Coronation Street was set in Weatherfield. Same with Eastenders and Walford, with Emmerdale and Emmerdale, with Hollyoaks and Hollyoaks, and with Doctors and Letherbridge.

Which would make pointing it out unnecessary?

Let's just hope that if they do either update the titles or create entirely new ones that they make a better job this time round!

Which would be true if somebody hadn't claimed it was set in Salford.

The easiest thing I done was ask around! I asked a couple of people "Where is Coronation Street?" And funnily enough they all said Weatherfield, Manchester!

Ahh, but Weatherfield is a fictional area in Salford.
Most place Weatherfield in Manchester due to the fact that Granada make it in Manchester - but its fictional history is all in Salford.
Coronation Street was inspired by a Salford street. As such, the street could actually be anywhere in Greater Manchester. Back to backs are/weren't unique to Salford and can be found in Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Stockport, Wigan and indeed Salford or the city of Manchester. It could well be set in Salford but it's Manchester that gets mentioned on screen. Ironic as many regard Salford as Manchester.

I agree and IMO I think Weatherfield is meant to be a town/district within the county of Greater Manchester. To my knowledge they never mention Salford in Corrie but they often mention Manchester so im guessing Weatherfield is meant to be an equalivent of Salford.
I think of most of those places you mention as being Manchester apart from perhaps Bolton, Bury and Wigan as they are further out of Manchester itself.
